Bible Study The place for those who already know, understand, and accept that God's Word is His revelation to us. It's not the place to question whether God was telling it to us straight, it's the place for believers to gain a better understanding of the truth that God has revealed to us in His Word; The place to go looking for answers on specific biblical issues among Christians, not the place to go and sow doubt. Man's science, reason, and logic, if it disagrees, is for Apologetics.

Maybe it depends on your calling or place @ the time?

For example, as a homeschool mom it seems the ones we are learning from a Bible verse book for kids deal w/ obedience & getting along with others. Like Prov 15:1 & Matt 5:9.

I can't help but think verses used for evangelistic purposes have to be top on the list. The Roman road or others that can be used to lead another to Christ can't be beat, IMO.

Try thinking about a scenario where you no longer have access to God's Word in written form anymore. What 10 verses would you want to know by heart?

I would agree, but I am interested in what other believers have found important to them.

In that case I will share the ones I have posted around the house for me personally.

1) "You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, b/c he trusts in You." Isa 26:3

2) "If you turn to my discipline, then I will pour out my spirit on you & teach you my words." Prov 1:23

3) "I love the Lord, for he heard my voice; he heard my cry for mercy. Because He turned his ear to me, I will call on him as long as I live." Psalm 116:1-2

4) "Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid for I am your God. I will strengthen you; I will help you; I will hold on to you with my righteous right hand." Isa 41:10

5) "Though an army deploy against me, my heart is not afraid; though war break out against me, still I am confident." Psalm 27:3

6) "The Lord is my light and my salvation - whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life - of whom shall I be afraid?" Psalm 27:1

7) "For God has not given us a spirit of fearfulness, but one of power, love & sound judgment." 2 Tim 1:7

8) "Your heart must not be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in Me. In My Father's house are many dwelling places, if not, I would have told you. I am going away to prepare a place for you. If I go away & prepare a place for you, I will come back & receive you to Myself, so that where I am you may be also. You know the way where I am going." John 14:1-4

9) "All scripture is God-breathed & is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting & training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." 2 Timothy 3:16

I thought if I don't have a Bible what ten passages (not verses - sorry) express some of the most important points in the Bible.

Who is God?
Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

Who is Jesus?
Joh 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

What does God want us to do?
Deu 6:4 "Hear, O Israel! The LORD is our God, the LORD is one!
Deu 6:5 "You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.

Joh 13:34 "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another.
Joh 13:35 "By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another."

Mat 28:19 "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,
Mat 28:20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."

How does God want us to live?
1Jo 5:4 For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world--our faith.

Rom 12:1 Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.
Rom 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.

Why should I live according to God’s will?
Joh 14:2 "In My Father's house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you.
Joh 14:3 "If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also.

1Co 15:51 Behold, I tell you a mystery; we will not all sleep, but we will all be changed,
1Co 15:52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.

Can I trust God?

Isa 40:7 The grass withers, the flower fades, When the breath of the LORD blows upon it; Surely the people are grass.
Isa 40:8 The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever.

My favorite is in the OT where it says that God said, "Let there be light" and there was.

Do not trust your heart, feelings, or emotions:

Jeremiah 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

Everyone has sinned and come up short.

Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God

We are saved by grace through, not by anything we do.

Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Ephesians 2:9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Faith comes by the word of God.

Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

All scripture is profitable.

II Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness

Scripture needs to be rightly divided [lit. "cut straight"]

II Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Our mindset should be on things unseen:

II Corinthians 4:18 While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.

Thanksgiving should be our motivation in everything:

Colossians 3:17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

My favourite passage is...

The world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.

and I also particularly like...

You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.
