Just so you know, I'm currently reading the New Living Translation, and was a bit confused on something. It's not really important, but it stuck out.
In 2 Samuel 24, my version states that the Lord's anger burned against Israel, so he caused David to perform a census on the people. Joab, his commander was reluctant, but did as David said. He counted 800,000 men of military age from Israel and 500,000 from Judah. No mention of the tribes of Benjamin or Levi.
Now...in 1 Chronicles 21, my version states that Satan rose up against Israel and caused David to take a census. Joab counted 1,100,000 men of military age in Israel, and 470,000 in Judah. This time, it mentions that he did not include the tribes of Benjamin or Levi.
At first, I thought about the different numbers, but then I re-read both chapters. Does this basically mean that God "allowed" Satan to persuade David to take a census? After this, God gave David three choices as a punishment for disobeying him.
I know it's not really an important difference, but I was just wondering who it was that really caused David to do this.
Oh, and I didn't mean to imply that Satan is more powerful than God by making his name in bold letters, but I felt that it needed to stand out so you could see the difference.
I checked my other Bible (NKJV) and it states the same thing.
I realize that these 2 books were probably written by different people, so there's bound to be differences. But, am I just taking this too seriously?
Thanks!!
