The Bible talks about being ashamed of the name of Christ, but what about being ashamed to state that you are a Christian because you feel that you aren't a good representative of a good Christian life?

I sometimes feel that way too. Maybe we should work on that.

This can lead one to speak about a very wise bit of discernment...that Christians are still not perfect. We are held to a higher standard...but are, by no means, faultless. There was only one who was ever faultless....and He is the real representative, though we will fail along the way. We are considered faultless because of what He did for us.

While I know I fall far short of the example of Christ, I would never say I am ashamed to be a Christian.

I was at a job interview once where the interviewer asked me to tell her about myself. My response:

"I am a Christian, I am a wife, I am a mother."

In that order is who I am.
Christ comes first, my husband second, my child third.
I didn't take the job, but the interview was fun.

Great point! That would be the only shame I would have because I do fall flat - ALOT! And I feel like I don't measure up to being a "true" Christian and witness for Jesus! And, other people (non-Christians) expect you to be perfect all the time because they're so ready to yell - HYPOCRITE!

If you've felt ashamed---well then you're in good company. Even Peter who walked and talked with our Lord, wittnessed miracles, walked on the water---yes even Peter was ashamed.

Even Peter said, "...No, Never!"

I'm not concerned with other's thoughts on my life. I am not ashamed of my God! :)

As someone said earlier, non-belivers are always ready to pounce on you when you make a mistake, so sometimes if i do something wrong and they do pounce i dont know where i stand and its hard to explain to them that everyoe makes mistakes.

The log in your own eye, speck in your brother's eye verse has been turned on Christians in a big way. They're telling us to go away and mind our own business.

My thoughts . . .

While what you are saying is all to sad and true. And . . . we are to be shining Christ love to the world, we often fail to do that perfectly. I know I have. Evenso, my story remains . . . It goes kinda like this, minus the gory details . . . "I blew it. Christ shed blood for the remission of my sins covers it. (No this is not a license to sin. Whoopin anyone?) He will do the same for you."

I am a cracked pot for sure!

"THOU ARE THE CHRIST, THE SON OF THE LIVING GOD."

~Peter

Jesus said: "I will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it." Matt 16:18

Nehemiah 4:01-23 DEALING WITH CRITICISM & DISCOURAGEMENT? (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/trevor.woodget/sermons/neh04_01.htm)

May I ask a question? Is it "them" we receive the great commission from? Jesus The Christ was standing at the gate of hell when he said he would build his church and the gates of hell would not prevail. I have some notes at home from a video series "that the world may know" that suggest that our brokeness will not stop His church or His kingdom and because of it we rely on Him as he is conforming us to His image more and more . . . IMO, that is the good news! :)

Is God finished with us yet?

[37] No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

[38] for I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers,

[39] neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Jesus said "he who denies me before men I will deny before the father"

I'm not perfect and I have gone against this before but I try to keep this in my heart at all times
