View Full Version : Pride

It is always amazing when the Lord speaks and teaches through His Word. This is what He revealed to me this morning.

Isaiah 10:15 "Shall the axe boast itself against him that heweth with it? Or shall the saw magnify itself against him that shaketh it? As if the rod should shake itself against those who lift it up, or as if the staff should lift up him that is not wood."

We were made for the Lords pleasure...to pasture in His field.

When Satan said "I will...", sin began.

I can now understand why God hates pride so much...pride is the original sin.

Any thoughts?

God bless,

I agree that the sin of pride was the first - it got satan kicked out of heaven. It's also what he used to entice Adam and Eve into breaking fellowship with God.

Pride comes from being "puffed up" and the word says in Jeremiah 17:9-10:

v 9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it?

v 10 I, the Lord, search the heart, I test the mind, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.

We must constantly remember that it's not about us, but about Him and His Kingdom and His Will.

Thanks for starting the thread.

As for me-I have to constantly remind myself (let the Word remind me) and ask the Holy Spirit to work on me with this pride thing! It is a sin, it is the sin that puts self first. We become God to ourselves if we won't submit in humility.

I really, really, really(!) think that a whole lot of Christians are in denial over this. It is so obvious that IMO it gets overlooked.
Pride comes up in so many ways too- I see it on other threads- (for instance) people not willing to be wrong, people caught up more in beauty or fashion or winning debates, than being pleasing to God, myself at times included. I wish I was better at explaining this- but yes- I feel this matter has been put on my heart as well :sigh

My RR name "Hyssop" is a reminder to myself about humility (FYI Hyssop symbolizes humility) it reminds me to be humble before God and man. I'm a WIP......

Edit to add: I forgot this is a Bible Study forum- I was thinking it was Christian Chat- sorry to be so chatty :)

Pride gets in the way of our having a relationship with God. Ultimately, all who will be at the Great White Throne Judgment will be there because of it. Only because we rely on Christ's work on our behalf will we have the honor to be before the Judgment Seat of Christ. I'm never quite sure if I understand the weight of this humbling truth.

But I praise God for it! I am so unworthy, and must always remember that Christ is the only reason I am worthy to stand.

God's blessings in our Passover Lamb,
Matthew

I agree Patty, Philippians 2:8 says "And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death---even death on a cross."
Christ is our example. Because of his humbleness, his father exalted him and gave him a name that is above all name that every knee should bow and every tongue confess that he is lord. I think what he is saying is that the way UP is DOWN.
