View Full Version : Do you ever wonder if heaven will have redeemed entertainment and arts?

I must think about this subject at least four times a day. Some movies I am certain will not be in heaven, due to an excess of inappropriate content or depravity. I have a strong love of stories that have a redemptive theme, such as Avatar: the Last Airbender, Supernatural, Lord of the Rings and Star Wars and hope that they will be in the New Earth, but perfected and improved beyond what they are now. A Supernatural series with a Christian focus and no swearing would be a vast improvement to the already entertaining series on now. All are about the triumph of good over evil (a theme I will always love). As small as this may seem to some, such things are of interest to me. Can you imagine what a perfected Lord of the Rings movie would look like or an Avatar episode with improved animation, and no visual mistakes or a Supernatural series with a Christian focus? I get shivers just thinking about it.
I bring this up because most books on Heaven don't seem to use many concrete forms of comparison, mostly generalities, like "It will be better than you can imagine", that are frustratingly vague to me. I have a child-like veiw of Heaven, such like a child might hope for an improved favorite object or idea they have here (something I have always thought, as far back as I can remember). The book Heaven by Randy Alcorn is the closest I have seen to nearly say that redemption stories will most likely be told.

God is 'creative'. It largely defines who He is.
I see no reason to believe that our 'creations' wont be part of the glorified experience.
Someone may even write Harp music. :heh

I'm hoping it will contain everything each individual loves. For me I love animals, I love old style homes (colonials, cape cods, CA Ranches) I love the 1950s and all their styles and social traditions (luncheons, teas, hot rodding, small town events, etc...) I love church on Sunday followed by the family BBQ. I love the feel, smell and sights of a beautiful Autumn, snow in the winter and all the beautiful flowers of Spring.
Maybe Heaven will give us our hearts desires but everything will be perfect with Christ as the center of it all.

I expect music and beauty beyond compare. The difference will be ALL will be to God's glory - no individual agrandizement. But there will be great joy in doing creative things for His pleasure. IMHO

As long as there's no country/bluegrass. (nothing personal to those of you who enjoy that)
I just don't want to think of Deliverance in Heaven. (and no not THAT kind of Deliverance)
I hear banjos...

LOL, CaiperLane!!
Seriously, though, I've wondered about that myself. I know that in Heaven, there'll be worship, work, and recreation, but what about entertainment? Will it even exist there? I'd like to think it will--seems to me even Heaven would be pretty barren without entertainment in any form. I'd like to see concerts, plays, ballets, magic shows, circuses, opera, TV sets, DVD players, CD players, etc., being offered up there. Maybe even the Internet! =)
And I hope people will be permitted to dance there!! Ever since I was a teenager, I've wanted to learn to dance the jitterbug, but I could never find anybody who know how. Maybe in Heaven, there'll be somebody to teach me!

I'm hoping for beautiful, glorious, amazing flowers in colors that don't even exist here on earth.
Whatever heaven is like, I'm sure it will be perfect in every way.

I like Chicago, and Neil Diamond. I like Kansas, The Eagles, CCR, Lynard Skynard and Fleetwood Mac also:nod
You don't like I'm Gonna Miss Her, Being a Celebrity, and How Do You Like Me Now, or Jesus Take the Wheel, and Why Haven't I Heard From You.
Except for Jesus Take the Wheel those are all pretty funny:lol

I like Randy Alcorn's books for young people on heaven. I liked the one for adults too but the pictures capture the ideas better than thousands of words, basically it says if we enjoy these things on earth, we won't lose the best parts of our cultures, art, entertainment, exploration and discovery. We don't serve a dead God.

I like bluegrass but don't care for country.
I don't think there will be old movies or paintings or statues. Think about it. After the first million or two years you will have seen every decent movie about 10,000 times.
I think we will make our own music. In our glorified bodies we might have musical talent ten times what Mozart had. I hope we will also have things like painting and sculpture and but will do them ourselves. Maybe plays.

I think I could watch Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan about 10,000 times. I'm already up to about 30 or 40!
But I think the memories in our glorified bodies will work differently than our memories now. Now, if we see a movie for the fourth or fifth time, our memories "get in the way" of what's up on the screen. There, I think that every time we see a movie or read a book what will come to our mind is the way it felt to us when it was fresh and new. When you hear a joke (that is, if it's any good!), it will be like you're hearing it for the very first time—even if you've heard it ten thousand times before.
(Do you really want to sit around for a thousand years with your friends—not to mention Jesus—always groaning, "I've heard that one before!")

I would like to go on the ultimate road trip in a '67 Chevy Impala (the car from Supernatural). Now that would be awesome!
BTW: my sig is from Avatar: the last Airbender and my avatar is from Supernatural.

My concern is that what story person may like and find meaning in, another person would find it has too much violence or spiritual worldview (The Force, for example) and as such it will not be allowed. I know it's not up to us but up to God.

Here is something to consider...
Who is going to sit in a factory all day making these TV's, DVD players, CD players, video cameras, etc...
I know one thing...it won't be me...
My hunch is that there will be endless forms of entertainment--all infinetely different and better than ANY form of entertainment we now know... and they will NOT require someone sitting in a boring factory all day tightening bolts. Jobs like that are going bye, bye forever...
I think that a safe bet concerning entertainment or life in heaven would be to take some time and think of what you would consider the absolute perfect life. Then take that, make it a million times a better, and even then you would not have even begun, to almost nearly, come within even an inch, of even beginning to realize, how truly magnificent it will be...

Why would we need machines in Heaven? Maybe the things we watch will just be on a wall in front of us like a virtual reality type of entertainment.

Again why would you assume someone would have to be in a factory tightening bolts? This is Heaven where the supernatural is....well.....natural.

"But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him." 1 Corinthians 2:9
Sounds wonderful to me, even having no idea, though still very uplifting and exciting to try to imagine.

Or Ephesians 3:20-21- 20 Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, 21to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
It will be awesome, that's all I can say without having experienced it. :wave It is interesting to occasionally think about though.

I saw posts asking if there would be TVs, dvd players, and cd players...these are machines. What you are describing is just what I said--entertainment will be infinetely different and infinetely better. I am making the assumption that the machines we know of today will NOT be needed, wanted, or even desired in eternity...Because, I assume that God can do better than we can. Regardless, my point was that even if we do not have those things we enjoy now, there is no need to worry about entertainmnet because--Heaven will be better than we can possibly imagine.

What does the Bible say?
If it doesn't define specifics, than it is guessing and merely applying probability theorems.

Where speculation fails, is thinking about it as we now experience things. What biblically says our mental processes will be identical? Or anything remotely like how we perceive things now? Maybe how we do so now would cause us to be bored if we were now in heaven. It would seem bland. Is it like Eden to any extent? But without the capacity to fall?
We have hope based on faith, not on experience or extreme details to envision.

The Bible seems to have enough violence to give it an R rating if it were a movie. I don't know how that entertainment will pan out n eternity, but in this life the Lord seems to have both eyes open when He reprts on our humanity in scriptures.

I do not know if any of you read "The Rapture" by Tim Lahaye which is the last book in the Left Behind Prequel novels. Rayme Steele had some kind of device in his room that allowed him to visit the past. I kind of wonder if we will have something like that. You could visit the past and watch the movie you liked on opening day. That would be kinda cool.
