i'm not real good at explaining my feelings and not sure if this is the right place for this but here goes.......
last month i got laid off my job , which i had for 5 yrs. 10 months and 4 days.....
things had been going downhill ever since we had been bought out at the end of last Dec.
i had been fairly nervous, well not only me but others i work also but really didn't try thinking about it ......i worry about things enough as it is.
well the day they told me they were letting me go still came as shock and normally i would have been driving myself crazy with worry about where money was going to come from to pay the bills and buy my share of the groceries, as ds1 and the granddaughters live with me.......
well , one part of the worry was taken care of ...., when i went back and picked up my last paycheck, they had given me what few days vacation pay i still had coming..........then, .when i should have gotten my goverment rebate back in May or so i thought, i did not get it until the first week of July.....nearly 500 dollars.......
now, the second part.......worrying about where to get a job......that is the part i cannot explain.......i have no worry about that although things are not good around here now and hardly no jobs available......normally i would have been on pins and needles worrying about it......but i have a calm inside of me that i cannot explain...........
when i try to say something to my ds1 about the way i feel, he says....." well, i don't know what to tell you" ...........and he asks me every day when he gets in from work, if i have been out searching for a job....and i say no.......he gives me one of these........:doh
i have been searching on the joblink website
but there is nothing around here and i know that a job is not going to come to me without looking.......
but i keep thinking of the verse that says, " be still, and know that I am God" and i have always been told that when one door closes, He will open another and i am wondering if when the time is right , that door will open.....because i know it did when i got this job, i was laid off of.
if this calm is from the Lord, i thank you Jesus, as i would have been going crazy any other time.
i am going tomorrow morning at a plant not far from my house and see if they are taking applications........there are only two places other than where i did work that having sewing departments.

Be still and know that I am God was a verse that I constantly had going through my head and one that got me through a really rough patch a few years ago when my family and I experienced a similar situation.
The other one was: Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)
For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Yes....this calmness and peace you feel is definitely the hand of the Lord.
I pray that you'll find a job soon.

thank you for the verse in Jer. 29:11
i went this morning and put in an application at the plant i was talking about, they told me they would give it to the production manager and see if they had anything ......
i think this company pays fairly well but i have heard some things about this place , like that they time you even going to the restroom........and if you are gone longer than they think you need to be gone, they write you up........http://forum.hkgolden.com/faces/donno.gif
i kept having the strangiest feeling as i was going over there this morning, that it was wrong !!!!!! but at least i will be able to tell the unemployment office that i have been looking.
i really wanted to put one in at the plant where ds2 works but they are only working 3 days this week and then are going to be off for 2 weeks........

his company pays really really good and they are union.......he makes 12.50 a hour and that is really good for this little town.
so please keep praying for me that the Lord will open the right door for me because i am leaving it in His hands.

ISA 26:3 You will keep in perfect peace
him whose mind is steadfast,
because he trusts in you.
I have had this since I had to give up working 6 years ago due to ill health. Last year my husband also fell sick and cannot work either. We are in our in our late 40's ealry 50's, out of work, to young to get the aged pension. Yet God has provided a modest income for us. We should be worrying about how to pay our medical bills etc.. However, we just trust the Lord.
Praise God for His peace and daily provision of all our needs. Amen.

well, i still haven't heard anything from the company where i put in the application so i am going to another company tomorrow......there just isn't that many places around here that have sewing departments and ds2's company is going to be down for 2 weeks......
i said another prayer last night for the Lord to show me what to do.......
i am drawing my unemployment which isn't as much as i thought i would get , but my car is paid for and my old house is paid for, so i don't have that to worry about and ds1 is helping with the other bills, light / water etc......so for right now i am making it....and it helps not having to buy so much gas...
thanks for all the prayers everyone, i know i am not the only one in this boat right now.

well, i got the job......tomorrow will start my 3rd week.......and for right now, i do beleive i made a mistake in putting in an application but i felt pressured by ds1....every day he would come in from work and ask if i had been and i would say no and he would give me one of those looks......but it's to late now, i can't afford to quit....i wouldn't be able to get unemployment.
i am not sewing but working in a cell....that is what they call their production lines and i know this may sound kind of strange but i would like to ask everyone to protest by not buying any sleeping bags from Wal-Mart, Target , K-Mart and there are two other places i can't think of...that sell their sleeping bags.....
their production pay for these sleeping bags is for the kids size are 3 1/2 cents a piece and 4 cents a piece for the oversized ( adult king) .......
i haven't yet seen any queen or full sized, don't know if they are run off another line or not......
i have been told that in order to meet what they call production we would have to put out at least 2000 sleeping bags a day off just one line........for right now, i am training ...so i am on hourly pay......$ 7.00 a hour.......a big come down from what i was making at the place where i got laid off........http://img137.exs.cx/img137/4175/fabricasmilies2yd.gifhttp://www.clipart.co.uk/clipart/mazeguy/animated/duck.gif
they do the Cars ( Lightening McQueen etc.) , Hannah Montana , Disney Princess sleeping bags for kids.
one of the ladies told me that they had hired 15 the week i was hired and that 5 had walked out.....two of those were on the line i am working on.
so please, keep praying for me....i really need it.....

I know production is hard work, it reminds me a great deal of coal miners lives.
When I was in Wichita in the 60's and 70's I recall people that worked at Coleman Co. and the problems when they started having troubles after Carter came in to office. People were forced to produce much more just to maintain their pay levels, sort of like the Hebrew's in Egypt.
People would remove safety lanyards and disable lockouts in order to push parts through the metal fab machines, and lots of people were badly injured.
It was tough, and later the airline manufacturing had troubles too, and people were being laid off all the time.
Laid off, strike, called back, scabbing, all the things, and I can still recall how worried folks were about the next paycheck.
So my heart truly goes out to you.
I had a good friend who owned a sewing company, import/export, in DeFuniak Springs and in the end, he manufactured for Wal-Mart, Target and K-Mart (jeans).
Then coerced into taking some of the production to Mexico (hello NAFTA), and later, all of his production went to Mexico, then he lost the management and distribution to Mexico.
He shut the doors and finally laid off the last 80 employees, and auctioned off everything. From 1970 until 1999. Almost held out for the 40th, but that would have been no celebration, so he closed the doors instead.
My hat off to all who work(ed) hard, and gave so much while others took or gave away that which was not theirs to give.
I am truly sorry.

your reply was very interesting as the company where i did work but was laid off in June after nearly 6 yrs. made AMERICAN BEDS ( box springs and mattresses ) , but we were not on production( piece work) like with this sleeping bags company i now work for...the bed company i made $ 8.75 hour plus a 40 dollar weekly bonus...
this sleeping bag company, as i said, only pays 3 1/2 cents for the kids size and 4 cents a piece for the adult kings....on the line i am working on...don't know what it pays for the ladies who are sewing zippers....
everytime we seem to be getting our speed up and doing better, something either happens to the quilter or to one of the two machines that make the filling ( batting) that goes in the sleeping bags......if one goes down, it slows us up , so slower production ....today we managed to put out 1642 sleeping bags in 9 hours but were down about 30 to 45 minutes, total, two different times today for some reason.
so, if you do the math........1642 bags, all kings at 4 cents a piece
1642 x .04 = $ 65.68 in 9 hours, comes to $ 7.30 hour
i was total by the lady in the office when they hired me that we could possbily make up to 10 to 12 dollars a hour ....that would be putting out somewhere between 2000 to 3000 bags a day off one line or cell as they call them.
