What is it with banners these days? Youth Chants are as if you're going to go to battle against evil, something like the Children of Israel did? Is there something about Babylonianism in this? Just want to know. Is this something unheard of? New? I've been asked this question and I would like to answer, but not sure how. Should this be part of worship and praise service? For example the banners with the lamb, Judah, fish, Holy Spirit on them? Where did this stem from? Is it ok? Has anyone heard of this? I need some comments on this.
Where in the Bible does it talk about babblings in the church and could this be similar? Just trying to figure out if it is within the Lord's will.

Not sure what you mean by chants.. We do a number of songs in our service.. but I wouldn't call them chants.. One that leaps to mind is..
This is the feast of victory for our Lord
For the Lamb who was slain
Has begun is reign... etc.. (those who are Lutheran are probably familiar with it)
We also have banners, typically they correspond with the Church Season, and are decorational.. I personally don't see any issue with them.

I had always thought there was something in the Bible about chanting or babblings,...but couldn't find it when I looked. I agree with the singing, and o.k. with banners, but was not sure about the chants???or whatever it's called. Is it responsive readings and scripture or what? I'm just interested and wondered if other churches were doing this. Something new to me. I'm not saying it's wrong, just want to know more about what it is about.

Is this what you're thinking of?
Matt 6:7 NIV And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they thing they will be heard because of their many words.
Matt 6:7 KJV But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen [do]: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

This would not be considered praying....but recitation, maybe.
It is youth doing this. I keep thinking there is something about things taken from the Babylonians but it must be something I've read and not scriptural about chanting. I could not find it in the Bible. That was my only concern. Since I was asked about it, I wanted to be sure that it was not harmful or a new way of worship... I'm wary when it comes to changes. I like to stay in my rut, and that's not good either, but one must be careful and not let things come into worship that is not of God, unawares.
I thank both of you. You have been helpful.

We do the battle cry...
Hail Jesus You're My King...
Your Life Frees Me To Sing...
I will Praise You All My Days...
You're Perfect In All Your Ways...
Hail Hail Lion of Judah...
How Wonderful You Are etc etc etc
We have drums and it's a chant.
Is that what you are speaking of?

what denomination is this? What kind of drum beat? What Battle cry? Agains sin? Forgive me if I seem dense, but I worry about all new stuff. There is so much out there with New Age stuff and an emerging church... can't seem to keep it all straight. I want to worship with praise, but I don't want anything the Lord would not approve of in worship service.

It's a non-denominational, Bible-based church. What kind of drum beat...umm, they are pounding on the drum, I'm not musical so I don't know. I posted the words above...they totally and completely glorify the Lord. This is not a new song...it's been around as long as I can remember. Even if it was a new song...the Bible says, sing to the Lord a new song :thumb As Sonic Flood once said...it's not about how we worship, but who we worship...it's the heart that matters... (IMHO)

There's a praise chorus called "Victory Chant" (its title) which is the song stated above. Not new, it's copyrighted 1985.
I've also heard samples of stuff in emergent churches--melodic noises/nonsense syllables to music trying to get him/herself into an altered state. It seems quite different IMO than the above praise song.
