Anyone here heard of a Paul Washer? Believe he is from Texas and was involved in special missionary work there some time ago. Just curious as to what people think about him...Would appreciate any replies!

I believe he founded (or at least is a major part of) HeartCry Missionary Society (www.heartcrymissionary.com/). He has many audio sermons available -- try Googling his name. Also on YouTube.
His teachings are right on, but maybe a little "harsh" for lukewarm Christians.

He says what needs to be said, in my opinion, especially to the Laodicean church.

Well, I knew about the website, but I was looking for someone here who might have had personal contact with him or who were close knit to his society.
* Acknowledgments: The HeartCry Missionary Society’s doctrinal confession is taken in part from the Abstract of Principles set down by James Pettigru Boyce, the principle founder of Southern Seminary (1859), the first Chairman of its Faculty (1859-1887), its first President (1888), and its most distinguished professor of Systematic Theology.

Also knew him to be admirer of John Piper as well as R A Torrey. A varied circle of influences. I have listened to his speeches and can see why he is attracting to some. No verdict from me at this point. His Calvinism would explain a lot of his teaching.

Washer is based out of the First Baptist Church of Muscle Shoals AL. It is a Reformed Baptist type of church in which some protestant doctrines have been adopted and intermingled with traditional Baptist dinstinctives. This church seems to be strong in practicing church discipline and heralds it as such. They would be right wing of most protestants but having adopted protestant theology they would be left of Independent Fundamental Baptist. John Piper would be right up their alley.

Yeah, that's the way I am seeing him also, Brent. But he has some peculiar language mixed in that I can't put my finger on theologically. Maybe he's just confusing things because of the "intermingling" you're talking about. I'll keep watching him and listening.
This is a personal issue with a friend of my OD's, who's extended family has come under his influence. She (OD's friend) is concerned about it.

Indeed.
While I might not agree with him on the issue of Calvisnism, I do admire and praise God for him. He is delivering a much needed wakeup call to American Christianity about worldliness and a watered down gospel.
The first I heard of him was when I stumbled across this hour long sermon by him on youtube one day.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uuabITeO4l8&feature=related
I have watched it about 4 or 5 times now.

I think Washer preaches the reactionary Lordship Salvation message pretty clearly.

very sadly, few preach like Paul Washer does, very few, most people would rather listen to the likes of Rick warren,Joel Olsteen and the ilk of those two.i had no idea that Paul washer was a calvinist.his teachings are on the money, the ones i have heard that is.Sola Scriptura,Sola Fides,Sola Christus.not man made doctrine.only grace through faith through Jesus Christ.reading the word is essential but not for salvation but to examine yourself in light of scripture to ensure that you are in the faith.
