Since July 24th I have been and am currently battling a physical illness that has also resulted in spiritual battles. I have experienced a great deal of pain and depression brought on by this illness and the use of strong pain killers.

Anyway, here is what happened. Just this week I have been able to go back to work part time. As I was driving in yesterday I suddenly had the feeling I was fixing to leave my body. This was totally out of the blue and I was caught off guard, so to speak. This lasted for about two to three minutes and I actually started to pull over so my vehicle wouldn't hit anyone. My use of the pain killers has decreased to only needing half of a pill daily and I had not had a dose in about 9 hours.

This occurrence did not frighten me but it did seem extremely odd and strange.

I am not asking for medical advice but I am curious if anyone else has had an experience like this.

I really don't know what to think about it.:confused

You didn't want medical advice but you may want to think about (and ask your doc about) changing your pain meds to something non narcotic. It could be you don't need the narcotics anymore and your body is metabolizing them differently. Surgeons see this often as people have less pain, they start having very weird things happen, and that's when they change the meds to something different. It's common, with a real medical explanation. Talk to your doc.

What glorybound says, makes sense. These drugs can do this to you. Also, a change in dosage can have an effect on your heart. I have mitral valve prolapse and have experienced the feeling that I'm "leaving my body" or somehow detached from it. I feel like I'm weightless. It's pretty freaky when it happens. I was driving, the first time this happened, and I pulled off the road for a while. I felt like my arms were not a part of me and I was afraid to continue driving. Now that I know what it is, I'm not afraid but it sure is annoying.

I had one of those "out of body" experiences as a child. I felt myself rise to the top of the room and look down on everything that was happening. It was during surgery. It was very strange, but I feel certain that it was the anesthesia.

I'll bet your experience was the result of your medication. I would check with the doctor and find out for sure.
