View Full Version : Meeting face to face

100 Gospels of John distributed last night. As the weather warms up there are more folks out and about in the projects. Young men going off to play basketball, showing off their cars. Older men sitting on porches drinking and chatting. Everyone eyes us suspiciously.

When we meet someone face to face and ask them if they'd like a Gospel of John most instantly say yes, most smile back, tensions are eased.

I've found out that there are 4 other smaller projects like this one around Milwaukee. We've just been given our next assignment after this one is complete.

Violet,

Could you give us some details about the project you are working on and the people you are working with?

Violet,

Could you give us some details about the project you are working on and the people you are working with?

Hi In His Name,
:hug
You are precious and honored in His sight and He loves you.

I've been ministering in the inner city of Milwaukee for 13 years.

4 years ago the Lord called myself, my son, and a dear friend of mine to go into the heart of the crime ridden inner city to begin praying for the city.

3 years ago we started handing out Gospel tracts and Gospels of John, so far we have handed out over 3000.

Recently the Lord has directed us to the low income housing projects of Milwaukee. I've ordered another 3000 Gospels of John from the Living Water project http://www.livingwater.org.

This last month we've been ministering in the largest of the 5 low income housing projects in Milwaukee. So far we've handed out 400 Gospels of John at this particular one, we're about 45% done. When we're done there, Lord willing, we will go to the next low income project.

I've been posting our experiences, if you search on my name you'll find the posts.

We've had the privilege to minister to drug dealers, prostitutes, gang members, and all the precious souls who live in the inner city. We've gone into a bar, liquer store (and I went alone into a porn store) to hand out gospel tracts.

We've led some to the Lord, prayed with some and have interrupted drug deals. The Word of God is received very well where there is great need.

The Lord protects us and eases the tensions as we walk the glass and garbage strewn streets.

I even found a starving stray dog on the streets 4 years ago who has become a member of our family.

Recently one of our little group dubbed us "The Carriers of the Cross."
Praise the Lord for He is righteous, merciful and just.

Micah 6:8
He has showed you, O man, what is good.
And what does the LORD require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy
and to walk humbly with your God.

The Lord must be with you....it's amazing to me that there's such a warm and receptive response to you handing out the Gospel of John! Just goes to show us that God loves us all no matter where we are at in our lives! Thanks for sharing Violet....you're probably giving others courage to do the same. :):

I just Praise the Lord and I stand in amazement at His mercy and love.

The most recent incidents that stand out were the drug deals being interrupted (the first one unintentionally, the second intentionally) and meeting the 5 gang members. As I made eye contact with every one of those dear people I saw myself in their faces. I felt genuine love for them, the love that only the Lord could have for a human soul.

And I will tell you about Sam.

Last summer I was alone in "my neighborhood" and there was an elderly couple sitting on their porch on this warm summer morning. I approached them and asked if they'd like a Gospel of John. The Lady said yes so I climb the stairs and gave one to each of them. I turned to walk away. The Lord literally stopped me.

I didn't plan what happened next. I looked at the man and asked his name, he said "Sam" I said "Sam do you want to ask Jesus into your heart?" "Do you understand that Jesus died for your sins and wants you to live forever with Him?" He said "Yes, but I can't" I took his face in my hand and said "Sam, Jesus loves you and wants you to live with him forever." Tears started to fall from his eyes. I asked him again if He wanted to ask Jesus to come into His heart and this time He said yes. I led him through the sinners prayer.

His wife then took his face in her hands and helped him to understand what he had just done.

Then she started shouting "Praise Jesus, thank you Lord!" and she danced on her porch.

I asked her name and told them I would pray for them.

As I walked away, I started to cry.

What an awesome God we serve.

Yes, Violet, these people to whom you minister are indeed dear to the Lord, and because you are seeing them through His lovely eyes, they are dear to you, too. I'm blessed from reading your posts. Please plan to continue posting. We need you here.

Violet...

That is beautiful.....Your work is very very important!!!and blessed!!!

can I make a suggestion....

Take food with you to give to the poor especially seniors...I can't imagine how they can afford some of the basics...
Take emergency medical kits...bandaids, wraps, aspirin, emergency cards.
Take shoes....clothes....donate them to the local free shop.
Take books, paper, crayons, markers for the kids.

Ask the people you talk with what they need most and make it a part of your ministry....
and go visit some of the same people again and again...

and keep giving the tracts & prayers....

I guess I'm suggesting that you expand what you are already doing...let it grow & bloom...

Godspeed!!! Julie

Hi Julie,

:hug
The Lord bless you and keep you. You are a joy to everyone who knows you. Thank you for the inspiration.

I have adopted a neighborhood, you'll hear me call it "my neighborhood." This is different than the low income projects we're going to right now. Lord willing, I would like to open an outreach center in that neighborhood that does exactly what you've mentioned. Please keep our little evangelism team in your prayers.
