My family knows Jerry and his family well. My parents went to church with him and his wife before I was born in Chicago, and I used to go to his house to play baseball with his sons when they lived by us (Pre-Left Behind Days). My uncle, who is the director of music at a mega-church in California, was watching a baseball game with Jerry last year, and they came up with the idea of my uncle scoring a musical version of his latest book. I don't remember if it was "Kingdom Come" or not. My six degrees of separation, I guess!
It is hard to hear ministers denouncing the theology in the Left Behind series. I actually was visiting a church during my nephew's baptism this year, and the pastor in his sermon, which he titled Left Behind, actually denounced Jerry and LaHaye as heretics who were just out to get rich! I was very offended. Jerry Jenkins is a true Christian who spreads the word of God in all his writing. People may think the theology is off, but I couldn't believe this pastor being so judgmental!

Jerry and Tim did about as much with it as could be hoped for, considering the Bible's lack of chronological material about the Millennium. Just about all the Bible gives us about the Millennium is a lot of descriptions of conditions in general during the Millennium, where the Tribulation, by contract, has a very detailed and complex chronology in the Bible that allows for much deeper literay development.
The tension level in Kingdom Come was very shallow compared to such things as Buck's and Tsion's midnight run from Israel in book 3 or the execution of Chloe in book 11. I don't fault the authors for this, however. If they are to be faulted at all, it would have to be for even writing this book in the first place. Having committed themselves to it, however, the probably did about as well as the lack of Biblical chronological material would have allowed them to do.
From a purely theological point of view, some of their ideas about an undercurrent of a growing rebellion throughout the Millennium, even in spite of the 100-year lifespan limit on the unsaved, were very thought-provoking, as were their descriptions of the effects of age on differing groups during the Millennium (as in "glorifieds" vs. "naturals"). If you own the entire Left Behind series up to that point and actually read the whole series, "Kingdom Come" is probably worth it. If you haven't read the entire series, I would read the entire series before bothering with Kingdom Come.

Even if Jerry and Tim were total wackos, surely this pastor has something more urgent to be spending his pulpit time on????

I am a huge fan of the Left Behind series. That said, I was sooooooooo disappointed in Kingdom Come. It started off strong but it all fell apart about half way through. I wouldn't buy it.

It was because of the Left Behind series that I came to have any interest in prophecy at all. I grew up in a church that stated "Revelation is too difficult to understand" and we'd pretend it wasn't in the Bible at all. :rolleyes I know there is much criticism of the series and of the authors themselves, to me that's such a shame. I can't even imagine the fruit the series has produced for the Lord's Kingdom. I'm sure it's vast. I've read the entire series and am looking forward to the reading the last book. I've actually been putting off reading it because I'm not sure I really want it to be "over" if that makes sense.

I did not like the fact that we did not get to see more of the past characters. I really did not need all of the new characters because I felt like I did not get to know them well. I also would have like to have read, in more depth, how some of the young people came to Jesus. I think I was also thrown off by the term child. Everytime I read that word I kept picturing a child under 12, and could not see a 90 yr old person.
This one is my least favorite of them all. I really liked the first 12.

Tim LaHaye wrote an excellent book called, 'Revelation Unveiled' you might enjoy. He goes verse by verse and clearly explains the book of Revelation....it's what brought me back to the Lord. :wave

I have that book and have thoroughly enjoyed it! Thanks for the recommendation! :lol
Revelation is such a hopeful book, in my opinion.. it totally revolutionized my fractured, little faith.

I'm only halfway through "Kingdom Come" and so far I'm not very impressed with it. There's no sense of danger to any of the believers, which is what was so exciting about the previous books. I, too, would have loved to read about past characters (ie - Steve Plank (Buck's old boss), David (the computer genious), Ann Christopher (David's fiance), Dr. Charles, Hattie - is Hattie even mentioned?!? - she was such a major plot device for the majority of the series!!!).
Then there's the creative license behind the book. No one has the desire to eat meat? If find that hard to believe. And the technology - will we really need to rely on planes again in the Millienium Kingdom? Subdermal cell phones? In the last book, Jesus gave the Trib Saints the ability to run 60+ MPH. I guess that was temporary.
At this point, I'm considering Glorious Appearing as the end of the series - Kingdom Come feels more like a footnote.

I just finished reading the book and was impressed with most of it, considering (as Literalist Luke points out), the lack of specifics on the MK in the Bible.
I would like to say that this whole series of books was wonderful. The first book was my turning point for accepting Jesus Christ as my Savour. And the entire series led me on the path of Biblical prophecy.

I'm three quarters of the way through the book and my biggest concern is that the believers in glorified bodies are shown to be exhibiting petty feelings of jealousy, anger, etc. I didn't think any of that would exist in the glorifed heart and mind of a believer.

I was hoping for more with Chang and David in it too. I was a bit disappointed that there was so much assumption in it, such as that all people will be vegatarians (animals will, but on people it remains silent, to the best of my knowledge). And Chole saying that it was as though some medicine had been prescribed that removed any romantic feelings for Buck made it seem that romance is a less positive emotion. Also, stating that we will not have reproductive functions in our glorified bodies is confusing to me, as why would we not be able to have the phsyical systems given to Adam and Eve, but just not have the desire to use them in sinful ways?

I read this thread the other night......figured, hmm, won't bother reading that one.
Then I saw Kingdom Come on prominent display at our public library Thursday night. So I checked it out. Read most of it last night, the rest awhile ago. Already checked it in. (One thing the Lord has blessed me with is an ability to read fast.)
Kingdom Come was underwhelming. I admit, I did quit reading the series when it seemed the plots were becoming too contrived. But I'd skim the latest at Wal-Mart or the library.
Anyhow, I appreciate the effort LaHaye and Jenkins put into a work about a most hard-to-imagine scenario, the Millenium Kingdom. ( I will add, in my present state, centuries of working at a daycare ctr sounds like :freaked Also, can't imagine being 90+ years old and being treated like a teenager. Although I'm 44 and my Dad sometimes acts as if I'm half my age...<sigh>)
If nothing else, KC should call believers into affirming their childrens' decision for Christ.
btw, Hattie was mentioned once. At the very end.
