Saw last night that Beth Moore has a new book out--just ordered a copy.
Get Out of That Pit: Straight Talk about God's Deliverance (Hardcover)
Anyone read it yet?

I haven't. But I love Beth Moore.
I thought about ordering it for my mom. But then thought it is more a book someone should buy for themselves.. as It might hurt someones feelings to give someone a book like that. Even though I think it would be a good one for my mom.

Suggestion:): :
Buy it for yourself and read it, and then go on and on to her about how wonderful it is and how much it helped you and ask her if she'd like to borrow it;):
I have heard good things about Beth Moore, but have never read her books--maybe I'll have to check it out.

So you are saying maybe I shouldn't have given my grandmother my copy of "23 Minutes in Hell?" :heh

Just bought it, along with I Saw the Lord From Anne Graham Lotz, but haven't had a chance to read it yet. Seeing as I'm home with a cold tonight I should probably get off this computer and go see what she has to say! :):

I went to Beth's Telecast last weekend on this book. It was great.
It talks about even in our trials and temptations, struggles, to rejoice in the Lord and learn from them, trusting in God and not letting Satan bring us or keep us down.

I realize this may be a strange question, but I don't know who to trust anymore as far as authors, etc. I'm trying so hard to heal from wof stuff and people telling me for years that I just need to be baptized in the Spirit. And I'm trying to heal from years of psychotherapy and the "positive thinking" movement. Is Beth Moore into any of that? I remember reading some of her stuff when I was into the wof movement, but my mind is so numb from all the junk, I just don't know, so thought I would ask here. Thanks!

I have done 4 Beth Moore studies and they are biblically sound. I went to Living Proof Live a couple of weeks ago in Detroit and she was fabulous. She is straight talking and doesn't mince around when talking about the Word of God. I recommend her studies and I've heard good things about this book. She has BTDT and we can all learn from her experiences.

She is definitely NOT a WOF'er. She's a Baptist who teaches primarily for women.

My sister is a big Beth Moore fan and gave me a copy of the book. I read it over the weekend. I thought it was pretty good. She also includes some anecdotes that are pretty amusing. I found the story about the guy who started screaming when their plane took off pretty funny...(ya have to read it)
The meat of the book is concerned with the "Pits" we find ourselves in. She describes the three ways we find ourselves in the Pit, and the three steps we need to take to get out of them.
Worth the read!

I'm doing the Beth Moore study right now on the Holy Spirit. It's wonderful!
She is definitely not a WOFer and I've read several things she's had to say about that particular movement and she does not agree with it. I highly recommend her!

In "Believing God," she said some people err on the side of cessation -- that miracles were for Bible times only -- while others err on the side of sensationalism. She also said our faith is not about making God behave and pony up what we think he owes us :redface (I have BTDT adn bought the T-shirt but I'm over it now)

Scroll down and you will find a couple of articles that expose her promotion of a form of eastern mysicism that apostate christians call "contemplative prayer".

Not sure about that negative entry on Beth Moore. I know in all the studies I have done, I have NEVER heard anything about that. She is a solid Bible teacher.
I DO know, I don't agree 100% with any Christian leader.
Do you? :confused

Love her stuff. She is actuall in the area this week, but I alas, can not attend this one.
I am currently doing her book On Daniel. She has a great way of presenting the bible and making sure you do your own off time study to make sure she is on target.

Official Statement from Beth Moore
I just received this statement from Beth Moore at Living Proof Ministries.
My Dear Sisters and Brothers,
Recently I was interviewed for a program on prayer in which I was asked certain questions without any knowledge of what other participants would say or share. Since its release, I've been baffled by some inquiries into whether or not I am a proponent of approaches to prayer with overtones of Eastern meditation. Not only is my answer no, the thought never even occurred to me. I'm a Southern Baptist, for crying out loud! I'm afraid I have to convey the full extent of my ignorance when I tell you with stark honesty that I wasn't even aware of the controversy. I am not involved in any kind of emergent church movement or any kind of mystical prayer movement. Seeing people come to know Christ Jesus through the study of His Word is the only movement I'm part of. I thought I was simply one of a number of people who were being interviewed about approaches to prayer. I also thought that our different approaches would be part of what made the program interesting. In no way did it ever occur to me that each participant would be seen as part of the same movement. I was told that I was asked to participate because I'd written Praying God's Word. I'm not sure you'd find anything further from a mystical, almost out-of-body prayer experience I'm being asked if I support. If I have participated in something unsound, it was hugely accidental and I ask your forgiveness. Nothing could be further from my desire. I have shared platforms with other speakers and teachers a number of times. My frustration is that any of us would be at a loss to take responsibility for every point of doctrine the others hold. I humble myself before you and ask that you would please hold me responsible for my words and answers only and, even then, please keep in mind that editors can use bits and pieces of interviews to convey something the interviewee might not have intended to say. Here's what I intended to say: pray, pray, and pray some more and learn how to listen for God's response.
Rest assured I have been greatly helped by this experience and will be more careful in the future. Thank you not only for your concern but for the accountability. I want very much to be a solid servant of God and His Word. I want to keep growing in Christ. In that process, I am more than willing to receive sound correction.
I am honored to serve you.
In Christ's Name,
Beth Moore

Yes, she is, and she's one of the few "famous" teachers I would ever stick up for. But I have sat through so many of her online classes and read all her books and just feel I *know* her heart (in this matter.):nod

I read the website there and I still think it is a bunch of hogwash. No offsense. You can take anything in the bible and "turn" it into "new age" stuff if you twist and turn it enough.
I have done all of Beth's studies and I have never once heard her say anything about "becoming one with nature" or anything near anything "mystic".
She reads the word, meditates on it, researches meanings in Greek and Hebrew, journals, reflects and listens to what he is saying in the verse selection. Her methods are no different than any of ours.
She may have a bit odd of a "God chat" in that he talks to her like a down home country gal..but then, He speaks to each of us in terms we can understand.
Just saw the letter from Beth posted. I too have read and listened to so much of her that these accusations just didnt sit well with me. I too feel like I "know" her. These things were nothing of what she preaches
Advice for next time. Before accusations fly based on someone elses view and research, check them out for yourself. Otherwise, its just heresay and makes people look like a follower instead of a leader. When all this stuff goes on with the WoF stuff, I went to everyones website and listened to some of their sermons. I even got a few of their books, just too see what they were saying. The Spirit will convict when you read or hear if it isnt right. Trust, but verify.

Amy Elisabeth, as a former Wofer, I understand exactly where you are coming from. However, you'll be surprised at how clearly you'll see the errors that you once thought were truth and probably wonder how you could ever have fallen for it all. I too was afraid for a long time and still am very, very supspicious of anyone and everyone that tells me anything regarding scripture. Read her carefully with your bible open--the golden rule for anyone you may read. :):

I have heard that in Beth Moore's study of Joshua, in the video she has women from all denominations with her including Catholics and her point was that God will use all to build His church. Perhaps someone can verify this.
Another concern that I have is that she is now a regular on James Robinson's show.

Thanks. I do see much more clearly now (well past couple of months) who is/isn't into wof, prosperity teachings, etc., but it still scares me to not know who is into what. I was never into just totally believing wof stuff, but a lot of the teachings come from it and so Satan set up a bunch of strongholds that God keeps having to tear down. :):
