I've been on rr a few months now. I still lurk around a college bulletin board (no posting anymore). The difference in spirit is a complete turnaround. This other board is so aggressive and cynical and horribly anti-Christian. The mockery of Christians got so appalling the College powers suspended the board and came up with a new set of rules. (there's a story about this I'll type it below).
Now despite the new rules the anti-Christian tyrade is starting up again. Most of it isn't hate speech, some borders on it, but the messages aim to shun and shame Christians. The thing is, so many students belong to the board that its helping perpetuate a terrible message about Christians and Christianity. Is there even any use laying a complaint, I don't know the powers that be will care since the language this time is less severe and probably protected under free speech. People are so set against Christians these days this kind of attitude is seen as acceptable especially on a "free thinking" secular College.
Well here's an anectdote about the bulleting board before it got shut down. I was so amazed at the anti-Christian posts I thought of notifying the College admin about it (not the board admin it was worse than that). In the end I decided not to do anything, I thought they woulden't be too bothered about it so what's the use, well about a week later after years of anti-Christian tyrades and no intervention from anyone it got shut down anyway! I don't think it was a coincidence... Well now I'm in the same situation again, thinking whether its any use trying to do something. I'd love to hear what you all think...

Every storm starts with a single drop of rain! God can take the smallest things (your one complaint possibly) and make them great for the glory of his name. Even if he chooses to do nothing with it.....he will know you stood up for him. That in itself is a good thing! :):

In your complaint, I think it would be important to point out that this is nothing new to Christianity--there have always been and continues to be martyrs throughout Christendom. While no one is being martyred, the spirit that causes these rants among the students is the same spirit that kills Christians in other places. Even Amnesty International (secular organization) insists that Christians are the most persecuted of any people group in the world today. Not sure it will help much, but I will pray that your efforts are successful at obtaining moderation.

I've been involved off-and-on with computer gaming and game design, and the level of hatred toward Christians encountered on those boards is mind-boggling. Those Christians who are fairly sheltered and don't spend time in places like that don't realize just how vehement their hatred is. (Toward Israel, as well).
I remember a time 25 years ago when even athiests tended to have good regard for Christians. We were generally regarded as nice, well-meaning people, who adhered to good values. Now we're unfairly regarded by non-Christians are hypocrites, fools, and bigots. The world does in fact hate us.
All exactly as Jesus foretold.

I remember years ago when I first discovered the Usenets and subscribed to some Christian Newsgroups.. About 10% of the postings were Christian.. the other 90% were atheists or others, mocking the Christians.
I think that in order for an online forum to be fruitful.. you really need to have good mods, who can effectively monitor the board and enforce the rules...
Without that, I think these types of forums descend into chaos..

Thanks for the insights & the prayers Light and others. Yes these seeming innocent views can ferment persecution even right on our doorsteps. There's a difference between freedom of speech and non-stop targeting of Christianity even if it's shrouded in academic speech. As people say, the more times you say something to yourself, the more you believe it, well the more that people unfairly target Christianity even through logical / academic talk, the more opposed and militarised people can become if they already lean that way.
These poor people seem almost tortured by any mention of Christianity, and the more Christian the message the more they can't stand it. Its as in the Gospel when evil spirits coulden't bear to hear the name Jesus. Some of these people can't even say Christian they will spell it "xtian". The level of hatred is stupendous. Someone advertised for a shared apartment and specifically mentioned no Christians...

Medic is absolutely right - the gaming community has a lot of darkness. We no longer have the free pass to share the Word like we did even 20 years ago. We must be prepared to stand by our testimony regaurdless of abuse hurled our way. Granted on message boards, mmo games and usenets, it is only verbal, and perhaps petty griefing. But the testimony of Christ and His Gospel is their only hope of salvation.
Concidering the general climate against Christians in effect now, I would be willing to bet physical violence and real world persecution is a stone's throw away in this country. May the Lord give us each strength to be faithful to His word no matter what we face.
God Bless,

What a coincidence! That is my spiritual birthday! :lol Two years old this April!:clap
I do talk about God in the MMO that I play, and the group I'm with generally behaves themselves, at least when I'm around.:heh

We can start to appreciate the realness of martydom in the Trib. Instead of just reading it in the Bible we can experience first hand how raw it really will be.
