View Full Version : Your Adversary the devil........

I read this scripture in another thread, and I felt like it was so for me today. Like I had been caught and was being devoured right this minute.
Then I really looked at it, and saw a couple of very IMPORTANT words for us in these end times. BE SOBER, BE VIGILANT.
I know a lot of us have heavy hearts right now, for many reasons. I know for me, I need to be MORE VIGILANT so that I can AVOID the snare of the devil. I think things are going to continue to get tougher, and even more so we need to keep this scripture close to our heart. And stand on the victory of the LORD Jesus Christ.
I just thought I would share this in this forum. I hope the mods will keep it here.

I think it is a very good Scripture for the day we live in...
Think of it along with,
II Corinthians 10:5 We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.

I understand the desire to keep this in ETC, but the topic just isn't in line with the forum purpose. If we make one exception, we have to make exceptions for all. Sorry :peep

This is a good issue to highlight, yellowbo.
Too often I see people get sucked in to our Adversaries schemes. He will attempt to get us to hold things against others, for others to hold things against you. To be demanding and petty, being offended all the time, which invariably leads to hate and discord. I am reminded of the numerous family dissensions that are all around me. How families once strong, are now breaking apart for no good reason. It is very common today, and most are unaware they are being played by the enemy of our souls. Often we think we are just dealing with other humans, but nothing could be further from the truth. Be aware, brethren. I have seen some very little disagreements break people apart for years. Boy do believers need to understand this..

Interesting thread. It occurred to me last night that this very thing was happening in my life. This last week I'd really been struggling with some depression and I really try not to give in to that and can do ok. But last week was just plain old tough and felt oppressive even. Unfortunately hubby was out of town and I felt very isolated. Last night it occurred to me that I've really been in prayer for many people, hubby (who's returning to the Lord:clap), family, church etc. and I got to thinking that maybe those prayers are making just too much of a dent into the enemies world. When realizing that, it seemed to shake me out of my fog and I suddenly got a clear picture of what may actually be happening......I was being targeted. Now I'm aware and seeking God even more on these things.
Also, now that hubby is going to church again, I felt more moved to pray for his protection as I've seen those around me who've return to the Lord have hurtful things happen to them that have been obvious satanic attacks or attempts to hurt these individuals. Just last night hubby came home from taking ds to martial arts and on the way they stopped by a store to pick up some things. He commented that the oddest thing happened to him. There was a very young gal (maybe 19) walking to her car who was VERY BLATANTLY looking at him in a seductive manner. Dh was kind of taken aback and thought it very odd, especially since he's a very plain looking guy (by the world's standards...of course to me he's very handsome :bounce ) and kept on walking. He happened to look back as he was reaching for ds and couldn't help but to notice this women had turned around and still was staring him down in a very obvious manner. Being the good man that he is, he continued on his way ignoring this.
Immediately when hearing this I realized this was a satanic attempt to thwart what God is doing in his life right now! I wasn't jealous or upset but I calmly warned him that he will have some strange things happen to him and to be aware that there's an enemy who's wanting to undermine him. Now, dh in the past normally would've looked at me like I was being silly but I could see that he was taking me serious because the situation was VERY odd!

satan sure has the busiest work load hes ever had! :laugh Hes like an addict these days desparate to destroy us before its too late........:evil ......we need to draw ever closer to the Lord because he'll not miss even the smallest chance! Thankfully the closer we get to God, the faster he runs....:bolt
Saying that when a new spiritual door is opening in your life, or the life of a loved one, then satans there trying to nip it in the bud so to speak..He attacks new birth, so if you feel increased activity on his side, the Praise the Lord something good it about to happen!! :clap :peace Oh by the way what does dh and ds mean? :confused guess i'm a bit slow. :redface

It's interesting to read that along with the sentence that follows:
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world. (1 Peter 5:8-9).
Also from James:
Resist the devil and he will flee from you. (James 4:7b).
The enemy remains active in many ways against us. We all see it, experience it, suffer from it at times.
I think one of the key strategies of the enemy is to constantly keep the temptations of the old life, the lust of the flesh, how we enjoyed having our bellies fed back in Egypt, right there at our fingertips. We're not of this world, we're told not to love this world or the things of it, and yet its delights seem so nice sometimes.
There is much fruit God wants to bring forth from our patient, obedient service to Him. And I think part of the spiritual war is to keep our affections set on things above, and not on things on the earth. And so we have to wage war, resisting the enemy, Satan. We can't do this unless we're clear-minded and alert, not controlled by earthly lusts, eyes wide open (sober and vigilant) to recognize those crafty schemes of his.
Also important: a great deal of humility about all of this. Both Peter and James, right before writing about the enemy, quote Proverbs 3:34 in their writings: God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.
We need His ongoing, constant grace to wage war. And His grace is for those who stay humble before Him.
These are important verses, and it's a great thread for these days.
