what will our earthly relationships be like in heaven?
will my children still be my children and i will love them in the same way i do now?
what about spouses, ex-spouses? will we recognize the nature of our relationship with them on earth when we are in heaven or will we have newly defined relationships...
parents? will re recognize our parents (if they are there) as parents?
:confused :twitch :freaked :wacko :fear
doing a lot of learning here...

I believe we will know everyone including those relationships we had with those we love.

We will have bodies the same as Jesus' body after he was resurected. While the disciples did seem to have problems recognizing him, when he chose to reveal himself they recognized him easily. He still had the holes from the nails and the spear in his body. So I think we will know others the same as we know them now.
What has been revealed to us at this point is partial. The heavenly things are not clear. But the Bible indicates it will be glorious and beyond our imagination.

There will not be marriage or sex in heaven. We will not have families as we knew on earth. We will be the church of God and one big happy family. We will recognize our friends and families we had on earth.<><

this is what I posted in another thread:
Maybe we will just all be single to eachother, we'll have memories of our relationships, but maybe there is not matrimonial relationship continuing from life into the resurrection. Maybe the only matrimonial relationship there will be, will be between us and Jesus, described as the marriage of the Lamb.

I don't know the scriptures that say we will know each other but I do believe we will because at the transfiguration, Peter, John & James recognized Moses and Elijah talking to Jesus. (Matthew 17:1-4)
Moses and Elijah did not know each other on earth to my knowledge.
I do know there will no more sorrow or tears for He makes all things new...no more sin & our sins will not be remembered.
So when we are in our new abode for eternity, the people who have hurt us on this earth & whom we have hurt will not remember those times. Ex spouses will not know they were married to so and so for if they did, all kinds of good & bad memories would rise up.
HEAVEN and the new heavens and the new earth are going to be the most incredibly awesome places to be at !! Praise the LORD we are sooo very near to that time now!!

Here's some deep thoughts I have had about Heaven...
One, our bodies as we know them now, with our reproductive organs and all will not be needed in Heaven, so our Heavenly bodies I am presuming will possibly even look somewhat uni-sex - (Not to say that we will no longer be "male" or "female" or anything like that) or at least without some parts that we need now on earth.
Second, we are all going to marry Christ so-to-speak, so we will have the security, love and emotional / intellectual intimacy that we now can only have with one person with everyone in Heaven.
Our new bodies and relationships will be so pure that we won't have boundaries, so we will finally be really truly free and worry-free!
We will have eternity to explore what God has done, and yet at the same time at the very moment we are changed we will have the knowledge of the things of God.

I agree with you. We consider ourselves brothers and sisters in Christ here on Earth so I think that's what we will be in Heaven too.

Since we are one in Christ, if someone has multiple spouses, will they see their multiple spouses in heaven?

bopeep1909,
The Bible says we will not be given in marriage. It does NOT say there will be no sex.

architectlink,
Jesus was asked that question in Matthew 22:23-33. However, his only answer was in verse 30:
"At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven."
Again, He did not say we would not have sex, but we would be like angels.
To be exact, some translations say the "sons of God" in Genesis 6:2 are angels who had relations with the women and had children.

In many places, the Bible describes St. John as "the discipile that Jesus loved.":D:
Not that he did not Agape Love all the rest, but he had a special emotional relationship with this particular discipile. I believe the word in Greek was "phileon" or friendship, but I may not remember correctly. In any event, Jesus relation with John was not some generic "brother-sister" type of love, but a very specific and special type of friendship or affection.
And if it's good enough for Jesus, it's good enough for you and me.;):

I don't know the scriptures that say we will know each other
I Corinthians 13:12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
As to sex I don't think so that is only done here on earth to procreate, we will not need to do that in heaven.

bopeep1909,
The Bible says we will not be given in marriage. It does NOT say there will be no sex.
Sex is only approved by God when it is between a man and woman who are married.
We will not be married in heaven, so it's reasonable to believe that there will be no sex in heaven.
