Hi all...

I've been looking around online but am very wary of almost every author. *sigh*

I would like to have some book and/or author recommendations regarding dying, cancer, pain etc. and God. I have been looking at the book by Phillip Yancy called Where is God When It Hurts? but then read some "iffy" reviews on him here.

I'd like to have some good resources for my stepfather, who was just diagnosed with terminal cancer. I am not sure of his salvation status, but I do know that he was not exactly close with God. He's also not much of a reader, so something to the point and pertinent would be the best. Anything to help my family would be welcome also.

Again, thank you for letting me pick your brain(s). :):

Lisha, I am so sorry to hear of your stepfather's illness. This kind of diagnosis is always devastating, not only to the one who's ill, but to everyone in the family as well. Though I've not personally faced this health issue, I have read several good Christian books that might be helpful to him at this time. I have included the prices, too, as they are currently available through vendors listed on www.fetchbook.info

When Your Doctor Has Bad News: Simple Steps to Strength, Healing and Hope by Al B. Weir, Joni Earickson Tada, etc., pub. by Zondervan. It is currently available through Amazon for less than $2.

Nothing to Fear: The Key to Cancer Survival, by Larry Burkett. Used copy, around $3, paperback

Damaged But Not Broken: A Personal Testimony of How to Deal with the Impact of Cancer, by Michael E. Taylor and L. Burkett. Used copy, less than $1.

Best regards to you and your family as you minister to your stepfather during this difficult time.

:hug Alisha praying for your family.

Are you wanting something that helps explain why bad things happen or something encouraging or more of a gospel message?

What about the book Heaven by Randy Alcorn. I don't know if it would be appropriate or not for the situation. But it is my suggestion.
