The Venus Flytrap

“Who among all these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this, in whose hand is the life of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind? Does not the ear test words and the mouth taste its food?”

The Venus flytrap is one of the most fascinating plants you will ever find. In college I had a Venus flytrap that I would now and again feed with a morsel of hamburger from the college lunchroom. One day a classmate saw me carefully wrapping up the morsel and asked what I was going to do with it. I explained that I was taking it back for my plant. He refused to believe that a plant would eat meat. Well, he stared in doubt as I placed the morsel of meat into one of the leaves and tripped the trigger. When the leaf closed on the meat, he fled the room in absolute disbelief.

The Venus Flytrap is such a bizarre plant. It eats hamburger, for
goodness' sake!

This has me thinking. Is it the only plant that eats meat? What
caused it to begin eating meat/bugs in the first place (I realize that
meat was eaten starting after the flood, but why also by this
particular plant?) Why would God make a plant that eats meat?

I just don't get it. Are there any botonists out there who can shed
a little light?

I have just learned that it isn't the only meat eating plant. See the following:

Something else I learned:

In Germany, a pharmaceutical extract of Venus’ Flytrap is used in the treatment of chronic diseases, including most forms of cancer, ulcerative colitis, multiple sclerosis, all types of herpes infection, chronic arthritis and almost any immune deficiency, including AIDS.

And I think God just wanted to add variety in His creation and too, maybe to confuse the evolutionists? :D:

I had a venus fly trap once and I got it to flower.

Personally I like the sundews and cobra lilies the best.

not unless you leave it there for a year if it would even cause it to trigger

It's so weird that I found this thread today. Yesterday I went to Walmart and paid out in the garden area, and by the register there were venus fly traps! They come in a small pot and have about 10 fly trap heads in each pot. I got one because we have problems with fruitflies in the kitchen. They were only $5. You should check them out, they may have them at your Walmart...

They are one of the wierdest things out there. I wonder how evolutionists explain that one???

Maybe I'll get one just out of curiosity and see if it will try to eat my finger. :thumb

Do you think it would take care of my evil house cat problem too? :heh Here Kitty, Kitty, Kitty.....:croc :whistle
