View Full Version : Someone else's blood on my hands?

I ran into a liberal "born again" today, and I'm not sure just how far we are supposed to go when dealing with someone who claims they are born again and yet they are a liberal. During our discussion, she mentioned that her old pastor was female, which I disagree with based on the scriptures. I didn't comment on that though. However, I did comment on the fact that she doesn't see anything wrong with changing your doctrine to line up with today's society and that fornication she thinks is acceptable.
I explained to her that the bible is God's word and that you can't change your doctrine to please the masses if you want to please God. I also told her that fornication is wrong even if you are no longer a virgin. That when an idividual comes to Christ, they must repent or they've taken His name in vain. Just saying the words doesn't get a person into heaven. It has to come from the heart. Then I explained that fornication is still a sin. Just because we changed doesn't mean that God has changed. I then explained to her how I had an arguement with God about this very same thing a long time ago and as soon as I turned on the radio, there was a pastor hollering about how God doesn't change and neither do His laws.
She seemed to want to argue about all of that and disagree so I decided that I wasn't going to keep up the discussion even when she was way off base. I just bit my tongue on a couple of issues, does that mean that her blood is on my hands because I didn't continue in the rebuke? I did do it with a smile and very lovingly as if I was talking to her directly, but that I was just commenting on such ideas. She just didn't want to accept it.:confused

Well, I do know that we are not supposed to "argue" the fact so leaving things that may have been said and walking away can be a good thing. As long as you stressed the valid issues and she knows and hears then you have planted a seed. Now its up to her to ponder your thoughts and if she chooses to ignore them than it shouldn't be on your hands. I have too ran across a similar situation and have done all I can do the let them know, but they still choose otherwise and want to believe otherwise. So I guess all we can do is pray for them

BTW, its just one of satan's attacks to get you all worked up and question yourself. Don't believe him. Seek the Lord and you will find comfort!

Thanks ready, I just wasn't sure. I mean if I argue with her, what's the likelihood that she would receive it anyway, right?

Hi Laura-Bell,
Just thought I would mention that the job of the Holy Spirit is to convict us of our sins. She will come to understand if she is truly seeking the Lord and searching His Word. If she is not, it is not your responsibility to "change her mind", the only thing you could do is point out the scriptures and pray for the Lord to deal with her heart. You are not responsible for her walk with the Lord so therefore her "blood" is not on your hands.
God's Blessings.

I would recommend you go to www.wotmradio.com
Downoad several of their shows and I think you will get a great understanding of how we should witness to people. i have been listening for some time now and learned alot.
One thing you will learn is that most people you talk with do not have a true understanding of what it means to be a Born again Christian so do not let that get you down.
:clap :clap :clap Way to go though, Kudos for having the courage to step out of your comfort zone and witness to those around you:clap :clap :clap

Laura-Bell I just want to reenforce what the others have said. You did the proper thing by explaining it and not arguing. We can never get the point across by hitting the other person with a Bible. You said what was right and the Holy Spirit is willing and able to take it from here.
I hope that if the opportunity comes about you can talk with this person some more. I think by a not arguing you have left the door open to answer questions I hope this person will come to you with.

I hope so too. As it turns out, she lives in my neighborhood. Maybe I'll bump into her and get the opportunity to answer some questions. That is if her heart will not be hardened.
And thank you all so much, I have known people who feel that if you don't do the full frontal attack in rebuke then you've failed miserably and have not done your biblical duty.
