Beth Moore Gives Thumbs Up to Be Still DVD
Beth Moore's statement of "apology" should be disregarded - new information takes precedence.
The Be Still DVD by Fox Home Entertainment was just released in April. Featured speakers include Richard Foster, Dallas Willard, Max Lucado, Beth Moore and many others. Shortly after the DVD was released, Ingrid Schlueter of Slice of Laodicea spoke with Beth Moore and told Moore that the DVD was promoting the mystical practice of contemplative prayer. Within one hour, Moore issued a statement to Slice of Laodicea and asked that they post it on their website, which they did. However, there has been a growing concern about her statement and the fact that Moore's ministry, Living Proof Ministries, never placed the statement on their website.
Lighthouse Trails has now received emails from a number of people who have sent us a new statement from Living Proof Ministries. Because Living Proof is issuing this statement to the public, we are making this available for all to read. (See new statement (http://www.lighthousetrailsresearch.com/bethmoorestatement.htm).)
Because, we take this matter seriously, because we certainly always stand for Truth, and because we believe that once you view the Be Still video you will agree that there is no problem with its expression of Truth, we would like to make available a copy of this production to you if you cannot afford to purchase one for yourself for your review. LPM?s is prepared to cover the cost of shipping a copy to you, and for you to return it to us, for this time only, and only to those to those to whom this email is addressed.

I remember doing a thread on this a while back. . . didn't Beth come out and say she didn't realize what type of prayer they were promoting?

I bought this dvd about a month ago, but haven't watched it yet. I thought it would help me to discipline myself in spending more quiet time with God.
Maybe I'll watch it today and see what this is about.

Never been a fan. She seems to really subscribe to generational sin which most Bible teachers dismiss as I do.

I read her book http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?t=fpxa9vbab.0.687m5vbab.r49t9yaab.1&p=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fgp%2Fproduct%2F0805424652%2Fsr%3D8-1%2Fqid%3D1149195891%2Fref%3Dpd_bbs_1%2F104-0656329-2907157%3F%255Fencoding%3DUTF8 and found it to be a magnificent help with what I was going through at that time in my life. I would still rank it as one of the best Christian inspirational books that I have.
Moore says: "A head full of biblical knowledge without a heart passionately in love with Christ is terribly dangerous—a stronghold waiting to happen. The head is full, but the heart and soul are still unsatisfied" (p. 60).
I would agree with this, as I have experienced it myself. I have found that reading Scripture, praying and reading Biblically based books to eventually get me back to loving Christ.

I agree with that statement as well. I thought when I started studying ministry in school, that it would be easy to stay on fire for Christ. While I go to a great school with very knowledgable and godly professors, it becomes easy to just start dissecting God's word as if its some form of philosophy. I really have to work at it to keep my heart and head in tune with the Lord.
I'm not sure all about contemplative prayer, but just last week in Sunday School we were tlaking about the importance of spending time with God, time in prayer, and time in silence, just to listen for him and to him. I'm not sure I see what is wrong with this.

Roadrunner, you can learn more about contemplative prayer at the website quoted in an earlier post: Lighthouse Trails. I am sorry to learn of B. Moore's retraction of her initial apology for participating in a DVD where this kind of prayer is promoted.

That is good info on the difference between drawing near to God and feeling near to God. While I love feeling near to him, I know that there are more times that I dont' feel near than when I do. Sometimes I wonder if that is because of something I am or am not doing, or if its God's doing for a reason. Its good to remember not to rely on feelings though, yet hard to remember at the same time.
Also want to mention, what we were talking about in Sunday School, no one mentioned anything about the stuff with candles or eastern stuff. We just talked about sitting in silence with God.
