do you spend money on sundays?

The reason I ask this is a buddy at my church was giving me a hard time about working on sunday(I own a real estate brokerage) and I wondered to him if he went shopping on sunday and he affirmed my suspicion that he did in fact spend money on sunday. This led to my wondering if he were not being a hypocrit? I think if it is the lords day you should not force someone to sin by supporting business hours on sunday. If you shop at walmart do you think someof the christian employees are FORCED to work on sunday?

I for one would love to close my doors on Sunday. I need to be open though in the event an appointment gets cancelled or an opportunity is missed as the market is sinking and lost time truly is lost money in this market. If however Christians would stop shopping on sundays the businesses that are open would realize a loss and maybe they would close their doors.

1. Sunday is not the Sabbath. Sundown Friday to Sundown Saturday is.

2. Yes, I spend money on Sunday. However, Sundown Friday to Sundown Saturday I do not. I Don't go out to eat, I don't go shopping. I only go to services (and no I'm not SDA).

3. Though I once worked at Wal-mart and was scheduled on Sundays, I was never once forced to do anything. At any point in time I could have "shopped around" for another job, even when they told me I couldn't have that day off, or any other day I requested at that time. According to state and federal laws, no one can be "Forced" to do anything.

If you were convicted by G-d to stop working, go for it.. but if someone wants to cause you to not do something outside of what G-d has for you, and they hinge your salvation on it, that is called Legalism... and I'd take a step or two back from that person.

I think this falls into Paul's words to us from 1 Cor 10:23-24:

23 "Everything is permissible"—but not everything is beneficial. "Everything is permissible"—but not everything is constructive.
24 Nobody should seek his own good, but the good of others.

If you feel convicted by God to close your doors, then not doing so would be disobedient. Outside of that, however, I believe that we are operating under grace and not law, and agree with Ants about the legalism issue.

I don't have a problem with shopping or going out to eat on Sunday. I go to church throughout the week also. If you don't want to work on Sunday, find a different job. If you have to work, find a church that has services throughout the week or on Saturday and do daily devotionals as well. Every day should be a day for God.
