Hi all,
Just wondering, for those of you who know so much about the LDS or were a practicing LDS, maybe you can answer this question for me.
Every once in a while we get some young LDS who visit our church. They usually sit in the back, take notes during the service, then leave. This happens in our church pretty regularly. Another sister and I were talking about this yesterday and wondering why they do this. I don't get to meet these people much as I am part of the worship team and they are usually out the door when we sing our last song. My friend has tried to make their acquaintance every time they come, but she is usually met with coldness. She says it's usually two different men everytime. They spend a lot of time looking around, taking notes, listening to the pastor, take more notes, look at the people, take more notes, etc....:confused
Is this standard practice for LDS? Is there a particular reason they do this, or are they just visiting for the sake of visiting because their behavior isn't exactly typical of one who is only visiting.

Are they posing as LDS? Almost sounds like secret service individuals the way they are acting.

Maybe they were given the assignment to visit your church and plan ways to spread their false teaching like leave a tract/literature and/or bring contention to the body.

Well, MY take on it is that they're doing it to get information to be armed with when they go out doing their door to door visits.
That's what I think.
I had a Jehovah's Witness lady and look like her young daughter ring my door bell this morning.
I was still in bed. They rang twice. I had to get up, put on a robe, houseshoes and answer the door.
Nothing came of it, because I was still so sleepy.
I work until midnight......I have to sleep late in the morning.
I'm going to put a sign on my door to the effect that I'm a late morning sleeper.
Now, back to Original Posting.....didn't mean to hijack the thread.

I'm guessing they were Mormon missionaries, and yes, they dress exactly the same way and wear name tags identifying them as "Elder so-and-so" of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. You can't miss them.
They come to our church also, however, last time, one of the ushers stuck them right in the middle of a pew and they had a hard time sneaking out. :lol
They are there to get information about the various churches around town so that if someone mentions where they attend, they can say, "Oh yes, we've been there ourselves" and really get their foot in the door. :sigh

Yes....we can tell they are. They where the white collared shirts, with the black slacks, black ties and name tags with Elder so and so....they are definitley LDS.

I see them in my town when they're out visiting people, riding bicycles to get where they need to go.
Black pants, white shirt and black tie.

If you want my opinion I will give it. We live in one of the main sectors for the Mormon Church in Gilbert Arizona. Arizona is a hotbed for LDS and it is no secret that they have a power based in the schools, politics and business out here. Everyone that I talk with in our Church settings has taken notice to the marketing programs the LDS Church has. They appear to be highly organized and they are very systematic in their approach to growing the Church. They are very good at placing Churches in prime locations throughout the city and you do not have to travel very far out here to see the white steeples sticking up over the town in just about every neighborhood.
I think the people you saw were probably taking notes to help their own planning and strategy. One thing they seem to take very seriously within their organization.

It would seem to me that if they have to go to such great lengths to attract people, then they aren't gaining by the power of God. Evidence that it's false. Granted we feel we need to be seeker friendly too, but the difference is, we are spying on others' churches as if it were a market.

We don't get many mormons at church, but they literally infiltrating Auburn University's campus. Over the last few months a few of the "missionaries" have come down there as their mission and they are always riding around on their bicycles wearing their suits with the little LDS nametag. You always see them talking to someone, spreading their false religion. Their even building one of their churches on a main street.
