To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.
My understanding is that he's with the Lord, but won't be reunited with his glorified resurrected body until the resurection.

And, I forgot to say, sorry about your dad's passing, its great to know we get to see them again, and frankly probably soon, but its very hard to say goodbye, even for a short while. May God keep you in His living care and mercy during this time.

That is my understanding, also.
Jesus told the thief on the cross that "This day you shall be with me in paradise."
So there has to be a place where we go, in our spiritual state, when we die, IN Christ.

I'm so sorry for your loss. May God's peace bring comfort to your family during your grief. I also believe that the second your father's body died, his spirit went to heaven -- we don't understand what that means -- all we really know is the physical world. But, heaven is place that is not confined to the physical. Your father's spirit is free now, in the most wonderful place, with our savior, Jesus. No more sickness or sadness or pain for him. One day, when that trumpet blows, his glorified body will rise to be united with his spirit. It's hard to wrap my brain around, but it will be wonderful.
What a blessing to know that your dad is with Jesus!

:hug Praying for you. :cry Your father is with the Lord and is very happy. His body is asleep here on earth and is awaiting the resurrection.
1 Corinthians 15:52-54
52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.

thank you so much---i was wondering
i want too and if it be the Lords will i have prepared some verses for my family to hear---not i but i feel the Lord has guided me and i like to know if you think this appropriate------
my family is catholic--i am not---but the Lord has answered many of my prayers that their eyes be opened and it is happening----i find that if you just tell people the word the word does all the work
anyway here is what i want to tell them or rather what i Feel mt Lord wants them to hear---is it not appropriate
verse The Resurrection Body
35 But someone may ask, How are the dead raised? With what kind of body will they come?
36 How foolish! What you sow does not come to life unless it dies.
37 When you sow, you do not plant the body that will be, but just a seed, perhaps of wheat or of something else.
38 But God gives it a body as he has determined, and to each kind of seed he gives its own body.
39 All flesh is not the same: Men have one kind of flesh, animals have another, birds another and fish another.
40 There are also heavenly bodies and there are earthly bodies; but the splendour of the heavenly bodies is one kind, and the splendour of the earthly bodies is another.
41 The sun has one kind of splendour, the moon another and the stars another; and star differs from star in splendour.
42 So will it be with the resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable;
43 it is sown in dishonour, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power;
44 it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.
verse I declare to you, brothers, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable.
51 Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed—
52 in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.
53 For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality.
54 When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: Death has been swallowed up in victory.
55Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?
56The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.
57 But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
58 Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labour in the Lord is not in vain.

:hug I am sorry about your father leaving this present world, but rejoice greatly that he is now with his Father and Savior. What a tremendous comfort it must be to know where your dad is.
You will see him again, praise God.
I am praying God will utilize this situation to minister to your family and friends who don't know Christ. I am praying He will open blind eyes and soften hard hearts to receive the truth. I am praying He will comfort and console and bring to your rememberence every scripture that will remind you that we are just passing through this world; it's not our home. Your dad is now in the presence of the King of kings and Lord of lords. The Creator of the universe and everything in it, calls your dad His child. There awaits a glorious reunion in the not-too-distant future.
May God heal every hurt and broken area and bring you peace and comfort, in Jesus' name.

I'm sorry about your loss. Think about what Paul said that before his tent would hit the ground he would be in heaven with Jesus. He is in a great and glorious place and you will be with him again someday.

A story:
My Dad died in 1973. I remember it well as I was a teen at that time. I spent the next two years concerned for his salvation. Is he in Heaven or Hell? I didn't know. Did God receive him or did he fall to the debts of hell?
I had a cousin that tried hard to reasure me of his salvation. However, "I" didn't know a thing. I use to Pray about this all the time. Asking God for some kind of word, knowledge, hint of where my Dad went when he died.
I never felt satisied with this bit of assurance that my cousin offered to me.

I'm sorry for your loss. Your father is in Heaven. David Jeremiah is doing a study on Heaven right now and he addressed this very question.

Well My Dad has been gone now for 33 years. Long time. Over the years my faith would stand up to believe "he was in Heaven with the Lord." However, that small seed of doubt was always there. I felt I honestly didn't really know a thing. :sigh
Just in the last month. I found out that my Dad's brother had a "pamphlet" from their church from back in 1968 (a time when My Dad almost died from a ruptured appendix). Now, their Pastor just happened to be in a Bible Camp near our town. (My Dad's brother lived about 600 miles from us at that time).
They asked their Pastor to come and visit with my Dad while he was in the hospital. (remember, he almost died then, but, the Lord had other plans I suppose). :thumb
In that "pamphlet" it mentioned my Dad by name and how he received Christ as his personal Saviour in his hospital bed. :cheer
You know...I can recall a personality change within my Dad when he came home from that hospital. I just didn't know. I was a young Christian at that time. And that was my "hearts desire" to have my family saved. :nod
Well the Lord is always faithful to us. He never leaves nor abandons us.
His Blessed Assurance is my Joy of Joys. I finally had that "proof" I so felt I needed to settle that seed of doubt. :clap
God is Awesome isn't He?! :hail
For what it is worth, I will Pray God will rassure you with Your Father's where abouts too. Best Wishes to you and so sorry to hear of your loss.

i am so thankful that i know that my dad is with the Lord . my dad was a Baptist minister and he truely loved the Lord and believed every word of the Bible. :clap
i think that is the reason it made it so easy for my dad not to fight his cancer....
just before our family doctor sent my dad to B'Ham ,we got to take my oldest son .....the only one i had at the time........out to our local hospital for him to see his grandfather, before him going to B'Ham......
my husband picked up our son and set him in dads lap, dad put his arms around my son and said ........." this right here is the only reason i hate the thought of going"....................i got the feeling that daddy was not talking about going to the hospital in B'Ham.
one month from the day my dad first went into the hospital , he had gone to be with the Lord.

DOOBIE.........HOW AWESOME (I don't use that word very often) IS THAT??!!! I'm sooooooo thrilled to know you have the peace of mind you've been searching for!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just can't express how excited I am for you!! I was only 10 when my dad died, and the only 'hint' I have is that at Christmas him and my mom gave me a bible, and he wrote inside it. Nothing 'religious', just his love for me. I have it displayed on a shelf. Now, does that mean he's saved?? Nope. BUT...it does show he at least agreed with the idea to get it for me. Seeing his handwriting is precious to me, as I never got to know him.
I just can't believe how his salvation was shown to you!!!!!!! I am truly estatic for you!!!!!!!! I can't wait to meet him!!!!!!
