How do you go about it?
I know for me, Praying first, seeking God's direction, it's about telling them of sin, and the price Jesus paid for their sin.
I used to share about God's love and poppy's and roses. But I found, that if someone who does not see for themselves, from how far they miss the mark, that a lot of the time, it's not true repentance and a true knowledge of salvation.
I think this is why I like way of the master so much.
So what is your style?
Go.

I agree. I don't have much time, but a person needs to know they are lost before they can be found.

I would be terrible as a street witness. However, I help with bible studies for international college kids in which we prepare a free meal for them and invite them over to eat with us, and have a bible study to lean about Christianity.

yellowbo good question, and definately praying first, seeking His divine will!
Last week, my sister and I went into Harvard Square, where Harvard and MIT students and falculty roam about. Anyway, I made up my own tract, after prayer and Holy Spirit guidance. I kept it simple, blunt and straight to the point. I believe the Lord knows this would be "palatable " to whoever He wanted to touch through me that day.

I believe you have to show them the law to expose the sin. Then you give them the grace to show that them that only by Gods grace and our true repentance are we saved. Works alone will not get you there. It is our job to plant the seed that God will grow. Here is a link to a radio show hosted by Todd Friel, Kirk Cameron & Ray Comfort called "Way of the Maser". Listening to it will give you a really good idea of how to do it.

I am spastic and tongue tied so alot of times I am afraid to come right out and "witness" there are times when I feel like making a sandwich board and standing on the corner, though!!!!...When I have verbally witnessed...it is ususally about my personal experience with Jesus. Or, like with my family who are very religious and profess to being Christians but just can't bring themselves to say that He is the only way....instead of arguing with them I just remind them that Jesus SAYS He is the only way....then they don't argue with me but it turns to Him. Keep putting Truth back in their faces, maybe they are thinking about this on the side..
I know I am BAD with words, but I know my actions and attitudes are everything and that is what will make the impression over the long haul.....so I pray all the time to be a witness by my life. And for God to give me the words when I need them. And to help me be prepared to give an answer to anyone who asks about hope that I have...

I think it is important to start with God, and not with man.
In the man first method, you tell people they have needs and need something to help with those (feelings) needs: sad, lonely, stressed, hurt, etc. This takes the focus off the real reason why we need the Lord: we need a savior from our sin and from His righteous judgment.
With the God first method, I try to talk first about who the true God is and that He made the universe and the earth, and us. Then go into what man did against God- the rebellion and sin, and I give a few examples, like, we worship man and nature instead of God, we sin in our hearts even if we think we have not sinned outwardly, we have broken every commandment against God (lying, pride, idolotry, hate, lust, etc) and then talk about God's justice and judgment against sin. Then I talk about how man sometimes tries to get God's approval through his own works, such as religion, being "good", doing good works, etc but these fail to make up for our sin, as there is nothing we could ever do to be good enough or pay for our own sin. The result and payment of our sin is eternal spiritual death.
Then! I'll get to God's work of sending His Son the Lord Jesus Christ down to earth to be the payment of our sins, to satisfy the justice and judgment against out sin, that only He can achieve. Then I say that it is Gods love and mercy for us that He has done this, that it was very loving and merciful that He let Christ be the payment for sin and the recipient of the justice and judgment of our sins on our behelf, and I say we must (it is a command, after all) repent and believe in His person (the Son of God) and His work (redemption, and being our death, our subsitute on the cross) that we must trust Him for salvation, with faith and that we must follow Him, as He is Lord. All this is said with lots of scripture to back it up. God's word and His gospel is powerful. It alone, not man's words or methods or gimmicks, is what the Lord uses to bring people to repentance and faith, by His grace.
