you know that song we sing in church from time to time?

I surrender all....
all to Jesus, I surrender, all to Him I freely give,



I usually end up choking and not singing it word for word.....
mostly cuz I know I am not doing it, nor will I after I sing it.....

my dear daughter and I discussed it and she doesn't understand why I just don't surrender all.......
but, my arguement is----does anyone?????

she said just having a heart to surrender is what surrender is.....
but, I am not sure if I have a heart to surrender.....
I usually sing, apologetically I might add, "I'd like to surrender all....."
is this rebellious of me, or just pathetically honest.......?

I don't sing it word-for-word either...for the same reason. I WANT to be fully-surrendered, but I know I am not, and I don't want to sing a lie. I am very conscious that it would not take half of what Job went through to reduce me to a quivering, complaining, spineless, mass of jelly. I know the Lord could and would get me through it, but it would be in SPITE of me...not because I am so completely surrendered.

I dunno...frankly I like to sing about God and His attributes more than about me and mine...because I know how unreliable I am.

It's a start, having a desire to surrender is good, and I do...but I am not comfortable declaring myself to have already surrendered. I only have to think about some of the really painful points along my Christian walk...about how I have cried and complained and begged and screamed inside...to know that I have a LONG way to go.

Yeah I dont sing that song anymore either. I dont think its possible, even though some may think they do.
