Anyone know anything more about this? I am watching a program on the History Channel and this piqued my interest.

Scripture is not specific about the subject. And now you are cursed more than the ground which opened its mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hand. When you till the ground, it will not again give its strength to you. And you shall be a vagabond and a fugitive in the earth.
And Cain said to Jehovah, My punishment is greater than I can bear. Behold! You have driven me out from the face of the earth today, and I shall be hidden from Your face. And I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth, and it shall be that anyone who finds me shall kill me.
And Jehovah said to him, Therefore whoever kills Cain shall be avenged seven times. And Jehovah set a mark upon Cain so that anyone who found him should not kill him.
And Cain went out from the presence of Jehovah and lived in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden. And Cain knew his wife, and she conceived and bore Enoch. And he built a city, and called the name of the city after the name of his son, Enoch.
(Gen 4:11-17)Presumably Cain found his wife in the Land of Nod (which means 'aimless wanderings' or 'vagrancy') somewhere East of Eden. Who she was exactly isnt specified.

Hello Acheron, I'd like to give you a "sciencey" answer that I've come across. Seeing Adam & Eve were straight from the factory :B: they didn't have any mutated genes and they passed on a pretty good set to the kids. One of the reasons that brothers shouldn't marry sisters is because they both probably have the same wonky genes and that makes for a high probability that their children will be deficient in some way. Adam & Eve's kids didn't have that risk factor. I believe they estimated that about 7 generations had to pass before this restriction would have more of a medical basis to it.
I've always been curious as to what the mark was?
Hello stormtrooper, Here is a "Jewishy" answer to that, actually 4 answers:
1. Cain became a leper so people would avoid him.
2. He was given a dog to guard him.
3. A horn grew out of his forehead for protection.
4. God engraved a letter on his forehead so people would remember the command not to kill him (I think it was the last letter of the Hebrew alphabet).
Of course, these are all extra-biblical sources where this info comes from.

Cain's wife
Well, Adam lived 930 years, Seth 912, Enoch 905.
If those ages are any indication, Cain could have married a sister (but not likely), Odds would have him marrying a niece, great-niece, great-great-niece , great-great-great-niece, ... :noidea
Since Eve came about via Adam's rib, Adam really married himself. :freaked

Thanks, Moza. I'm not sure if #1 makes sense...if he was a leper, especially one that was visable enough to avoid, I doubt he would have found a wife. #2 and #3..we'll it's anybodies guess. I found them to be kind of humorous actually. :lol I think #4 makes the most sense. I mean, it's not like marks on forheads isn't mentioned elsewhere in the Bible.
