I would like to ask opinions on me getting a computer of my own in my room....
I am living with my parents, I am using my fathers computer, I have had issues with giving into temptation on the internet.
Would it be wise for me to get a computer again? Cause I really like those new Imac apples:nod
If I could get a program to block out all that garbage, would that be ok?
I mean I still have the opertunity to look at the stuff now, when no one is home, but I hate the fact that I would look at theat stuff on my parents computer, kinda disrespectful. I have done it tho before.
I dont want to flirt with any ideas that would mess me up again either.:wave

I would not do it until you are able to control yourself and are sure you would flee from temptation when it arises.
Seems to me if you put a program on to block porn you will just try to circumvent it for the challenge of it and seek porn as the prize of doing so. As for using your parents PC, it seems that it's not that it's sin that keeps you from doing it, but the fact that it's disrespectful to do so on their computer.
The opportunity to sin is all around, but to repent of it is to be in the same situation in which you once sinned but having overcome and not sinned. That is also a victory to which the Lord should be praised for keeping you from that sin.
Pray about it, do not try to rationalize the opportunity to sin more.

Pornography of any kind is truly abominable and every christian needs to shun it. Pray to the Lord wholeheartly that you can get away from it and stay away from it forever. With earnest desire and the presence of the Lord Jesus, you will be an overcomer of such rancid filth. And then you'll be fine with a computer in your room.

I would suggest you not have it in your room if you are tempted. I'd say put it in a central room that everyone congregates in so you can't misstep... (Hallway, livingroom/den)
If push came to shove, i'd say- no, don't have one if the temptation is that bad, and only use it at the library or something like that.

I agree with you all, I get tempted sometimes, but have resisted it, cause its just not worth the guilty and the empty feeling it gives you.
I got rid of my computer beacuse of what Jesus said, if your eye sins poke it out, so I got rid of my own personal computer.
I havent looked at pornography for a long while, but I do get tempted sometimes.
I just pray and give it to Jesus, and I remind myself that i am misrable after it.
I feel so far from Jesus when I look at the junk.

boxer this is one of my weaknesses. I have a respect for beauty and it leads to trouble. I have been really working on this weakness and I would say I have come a long way in a short time.

Even if you have recently been able to overcome, we are told to FLEE temptation, so if I were you I'd:
1) Get the computer in your room only if you are willing to have a "parental control" lock where you can only get on pre-determined sites (someone with a different log-on and a password you don't know can set the controls and specify which sites you are allowed on). There is no way to get around this set-up as one might be able to with filters.
2) Suggest your parents create a password so you can't log on to their computer when they are not home.

There are ways around a filter, even the best ones. Just the fact you feel the need to ask 'should you' shows that you're not certain about your ability to resist temptation. So I would say if you really want that kind of computer, to locate it in a public area or get the control lock joyttw suggested.

Don't do it..... If you arlready know it could be a problem, don't get one. Temptations are hard enough to overcome. You may be setting yourself up for a huge fall.
Pray about this. God will lead you in the right direction.

Get control over yourself first. I'm only 3 days into trying to wine myself off porn so I might not be the best person to give advice but every time I sit at my computer I find myself extreamly tempted to just go and surf my old sites and I nearly give in sometimes. But I am still free of new porn but not free of porn just yet as I am still separating out my clean stuff from the porn... and to be honest I haven't got the guts yet to delete the porn yet just move it so I don't see it. I hope that I can finally be free of this addiction soon but I know its still a long road.

I have a close friend who struggled with this and almost lost his marriage over it. I am older and feel very troubled because of the advent of the internet and the access it provides to porn. Even my own son struggled with this when he was in HS. I explained to him the dangers of seeing women as sexual objects only and the effects it could have on any possible relationships he might have with them in the future.
In my youth, the only access to porn was magazines or XXX movies, which no respectable movie theatre would show in public. It's just too easy (as my friend found out and I found out with my son) to find on the internet. I don't have suggestions, but I will pray for both of you, Boxer and Silver. :):

I havent looked a porn for a few months, its mostly just my thought life that gets out of control, satan hits me one way or another, Im 28 years old and I feel kinda weird having to ask daddy for help, but I do anyways lol.
I decided against getting a computer, its all for the best, even when I did look at porn I would look at it then not look for months, off and on like that.
Im just tired of the repeating, the repenting and it not meaning anything.
thanks for your help.:thumb

I have struggled with pornography for years. It has taken me about 8 years to turn the corner on the battle and begin winning more than I was losing. I have an internet company and I am home all day alone on my computer. I really was not ever able to fully overcome the temptation until I started using Internet Explorers Content Advisor in the IE browser. There are some good filters out there and I would recommend that you get a filter of some kind for sure if you decide to get a computer, if you have had trouble in the past.
Putting a computer with a high speed line in front of a person that is struggling is like putting drugs in front of a drug addict. Internet Porn is highly addictive and causes people to get lost for hours in a drug high.
I would get a filter or do not get the computer at all.

You are probably better off. Computer access is good to some extent, but not easy access to pornography. There are filters you can get that can stop access to porn. Perhaps that is an alternative for you, but you would need someone you trust to come in and put a password on it that only they know.
The IE filter is the only one that I have not been able to break through and it is free and built into the Internet Explorer Browser under Tools.

Could you tell us more about the IE filter and how to get to it?
boxer777, you made the right choice to not have a computer in your room. If you feel that tempted, please stay away from it. My son has a similar problem, so no computer in his room any more, and he is a different person! It's as if a burden has been lifted from him. I'll pray that the Lord gives you the strength to stay away from pornography. It can ruin your lift if you let it. Take care, and God bless you.

Open up your IE Explorer and go into Tools
click on Internet Options and then go to the content tab
it is called content advisor.
The best thing to do if you have a bigger issue like me is to have someone you trust allow all the sites that you need to get into. If you put the root of a site you can generally access the entire site, so you can enter the sites you need.
Everything else will be off limits. This is really the best way because it cannot be broken. Other filters can be broken and loopholes can be found. Not this one, it is fullproof.
BTW, if you set this up remove all folders for netscape off your computer because if you keep them you can install netscape and bypass the filter. It only works specifically with the IE browser.
This is the only one that has ever worked for me.'
Best thing it is free, it comes with the browser.

Our desires come from what we spend our time doing. There are things about my life that I could never seem to shake. I found studing the bible, listening to tapes, and growing in the things of God drove those desires away. Now, when I think of those things, I can hardly believe they were part of my life. God, his word, and spending time with him will quench all evil desires.

I agree with this. The more time I spend in the bible the easier it is to stay out of this sin.
