I am still slowly trying to consider finding a new church. One of the churches around here is a Baptist Temple. Anyone know much about them. I read a couple of websites of other churches with Baptist Temple in the name, but I don't know if they are all the same thing.
I am weary of Baptist churches, because I don't know much difference between them. The only thing I ever knew about Baptists is one I used to work at a daycare in. They seemed a bit legalistic.

I'm baptist, but don't know if "temple baptists" are different from the forms I am familiar with (I have belonged to both independent and Southern congregations) :D:. Not much help to you, though :doh

I've never heard of Baptist Temple Churches to the best of my knowledge. If I have, I don't recall.
I do remember hearing my parents talk about a church called Temple Baptist in our home town... But I don't know if that is the same kind of church or not...
Why don't you call them and ask if they can send you to a website; or send you information on their doctrinal statement and how they handle membership etc?
I visited many churches and asked them for just that, and usually they'll hand those out really quickly if you sound interested.

Yeah, I will probably have to visit them or call them. I just don't like doing such things. :B:
I checked for a website, there probably isn't any. In this small town, I don't think any church has their own website.

many baptists are legalistic. many are very liberal. however, in the middle there are many good ones.
We just left the baptist denomination due to just enough legalism that we felt God was stifled. We are now in an Evalgelical Free denomination and it feels GREAT!
Good luck!
Just ask questions about how they feel about women in pants, total abstinance, the KJV vs other translations, going to movies or concerts.
Those answers should help direct you.

There used to be a Baptist Temple in our city and I visited there when I was a young Christian. It was independent, KJV only, had a Bus Ministry and the pastor's name was in bigger print than the church's on the buses. When they finally bought land for a church building, they made the extra land into ballfields but watered them down when they were not using them so the public couldn't use them. VERY poor public testimony for this and many other reasons, not the least of which was their legalism.
They're gone now. If I had known then (30 years ago) what I know now, I would never had set foot in it. Their pastor remains the most arrogant, selfish, pride-filled pastor I have ever seen in my life. No one else has even come close.
