View Full Version : Still Looking for a Church

We didn't go to church again today :(: .
Every church around here is either PDL or totally off, doctrinally.
Every church except for the two Calvary Chapels, and we've attended both of them for a time. Both are doctrinally sound, but cold and huge.
Are there still churches that teach and believe the Bible, and have fellowship with one another?
Anyone know of any churches in northeast Indiana that still believe the Bible?
I'm feeling a bit discouraged and alone this morning :cry .

I know what you mean about cold and huge. I attend a non-denominational church that is very similar to Calvary Chapel. It is huge and seems like an auditorium. I previously attended a Lutheran church that had pews and was small and everyone knew each other. I feel like I am going with the Lord more at my current church. I love my pastors sermons. I just feel lost in the crowd in this church. There does seem to be some cliques in the church. They do have LIFE groups where you can go to an individuals house and pray and discuss the sermons and be in a smaller group. I just haven't tried one of these groups yet.<><

Once you get into life groups or care groups, and get to know people, the church will begin to get smaller. This is the only way to bond, and it's what truly holds the church together and gives it strength.

What type of Church are you looking for?
Have you ever thought of first looking at their beliefs and tracing back their faith traditions to see which is most Biblically sound and doctrinally consistant with the early Church?
I would suggest looking at early Christian writings in your search for truth and consistancy with the truth.

I think Sheildbearer already said that he is looking for a church that is biblically based and not man-thinking based.
I too am going though the church visiting process. It's hard at times. I think we found something that has great teaching/preaching but we need to meet with the pastor and since we have kids need to find out more of the focus they have for families.
I listen to lots of radio teachers like Alistar Begg, Adrian Roders, etc.
Keeps me going in the meantime.
Keep hanging in there ! There are many brothers and sisters in the same boat. God knows it and will make a way for us to fellowship with other believers.

So how do you distinguish man based beliefs from Bible based beliefs? If you would like to start a thread on this I would be happy to participate.

Not going to church is the surest way of not finding one. So don't give up out of discouragement.
If a church is doctrinally sound but large I'd ecourage you not to decide it is cold too fast. This is relative, but some of the coldest churches I've been in are small - everyone knows everyone else and they want to keep it that way. I'm not equating growth with spirituality, but growth does indicate something is happening.. it's up to you to decide if "it" is biblical.
Of course, huge is hugre and ya can't do anything about that. But huge churches are just made up of a lot more people. If you like the doctrine take the risk and start attending a small group or fellowship. It's impossible to feel warm and fuzzy past a couple hundred anyway - so look for those feelings in the appropriate sized group. If you don't like the style right away, don't give up - maybe God's stretching your zone a bit.
As for PDL - my take is "so what?" Granted, I don't care for pre-packaged deals and our church would never impliment something canned. But that should not be the disqualifier that keeps you from attending if there are really are no other options. I mean, it's not like there's anything biblically wrong with the book right? :D:
I guess a lot depends on what you mean by "believe the bible." I've read enough and talked to enough people to know that to many "believe the bible" means act like it's 1953. Not say'n you do by any means, but for those caught in the trap that says Church must be this... or Christianity must be "done" tis way - it will get harder and harder to find a "biblical" church.
The Church is Christ's Body and she will continue to gather together as long as she is present... so 'get out there and find you portion of the Body! :thumb

There are lots of early Christian writings and they can be a wealth for churches. Not sure they'd help much in a search for a church, but I think all church leaders should read the Fathers.

Really? They're pretty conservative if you look at their beliefs on their site. The ones in this area are really Bible based. Which one was PDL?

Harley,
We don't look to the church fathers to decide which organization out there is the one and only true church. This is what I'm disagreeing with.
Sheesh! You don't always have to pick on me do you? ;):
