Hal Lindsey quoted where in the Bible it says if someone comes to do you or your family harm, it is justified if you kill them to defend yourself and your family.
Problem is, I can't find where in the Bible this is stated. If anyone could reference this, I'd be most grateful.

If I remember correctly, it's in the Old Testament, and talks about how if you kill a thief when he comes to your house in the night to rob it, you would not be held accountable for his blood. But, I don't know the specifics.

Blessings to ALL! You said he quoted, but unless you can quote Hal, we can't give an honest answer to what Hal said, right? right!

I have heard it taught that the command "you shall not kill," literally means "you shall not murder."
I believe that the bible does not forbid self-defense. Exodus 22:2 states "if a thief is caught while breaking in and is struck so that he dies, there will be no bloodguiltiness on his account, but if the sun has risen on him, there will be bloodguiltienss."
I take this to mean that defending yourself with deadly force if necessary is acceptable if you actually have an encounter with the intruder, i.e., this being a potentially life threatening situation - but it is not acceptable if he is killed after he broke in, and then got away and the intrusion was not discovered until "morning."
Jesus told his disciples the night before His crucifixion, "Let him who has no sword, sell his cloak and buy one." One of the apostles then produced two of them. Thus, some say that Jesus, by this statement, permitted self defense. Other's say that he was using an illustrative example to teach them and not really telling them to buy a sword - nevertheless, I think it is noteworthy to see that they, in fact, already had two in their posssession to begin with.

Moses killed a man....who was being whipped or something...
I dont think God faulted him for it..but the egyptians did..
Acts 7:22 And Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was mighty in words and in deeds.
Acts 7:23 And when he was full forty years old, it came into his heart to visit his brethren the children of Israel.
Acts 7:24 And seeing one of them suffer wrong, he defended him, and avenged him that was oppressed, and smote the Egyptian:

We can find support for self defense in the old testament but does'nt the new testament basically say that God gets our vengeance and not to repay violence with violence?
Turn the other cheek it says...
As for me, I think we can defend ourselves but in the new testament I can't really find supporting scripture.
