I finally got off a letter to my Father-in-Law and would like to share it - everyone was a tremendous help, I thank you all and welcome any comments on this letter - I just sent it to him 2 minutes ago.......
Shortly after ya'lls visit I wanted to increase my knowledge of the Scripture and climb to a higher level of understanding, or as Paul put it, get off the milk and into the meat. Not long after my car accident when you sent me my Bible you also gave me some stuff by Kenneth Copeland, and knowing how much stock you put in his teachings I figured he would be the ideal choice to help guide me. I don't know if I've ever made it known to you or not but I have a deep and genuine respect for you and your love and knowledge of the Scripture. I'd be satisfied to know just half of what you've forgotten.
So I went on the internet to order some of his tapes and books and found a site that not only listed everything he's ever put out but gave an overview of his teachings and recommendations on what to get first, how to study, ect.......This is where I read some things that has confused me terribly, as they are absolutely contrary to everything I thought I had learned up to this point. I realize I am as an infant in my walk with our Lord but thanks to Les Feldick,Charles Stanley,David Jeremiah and Hal Lindsey I have come quite a ways this past year - or atleast I thought I had. This has me desperately wondering how many other things I could be wrong about and the extent of my discouragement is very disheartening.
There are a couple things in particular that I need to ask you about. First, he says that Jesus was the first Born Again man and that his Deity didn't begin until he was baptised and the holy Spirit decended upon Him, therefore He was not born God. Kenneth said God told him that as a born-again-man he himself could have accomplished the same thing on the Cross that Jesus had if it had been the only requirement for our salvation, but only God was able to continue on into hell to further suffer and do battle with satan for 3 days. Is this in an old manuscript that wasn't put in our present day Bibles or what ? I know he decended to hades for the sake of the Saints that had died up to that point, but the rest of it is all new to me.
He also says " You don't have a god in us, we are one .When I read in the Bible where he (Jesus) says 'I Am', I just smile and say 'I Am' too." Here is another quote I'm having a real hard time with. "Gods reason for creating Adam was his desire to reproduce himself. I mean a reproduction of Himself. And in the Garden of Eden He did just that. He was not a little like God, He was not almost like God, He was not subordinate to God even ... Adam was as much like God as you can get, just the same as Jesus. Adam in the Garden of Eden was God manifested in the flesh".
Please help me out here, Bill. Give our love to Lou and tell her Cindy will call this weekend.......God bless !
