I was curious as to what the prevailing opinion here was on the subject of the Quakers. I am not a Quaker, but I have attended a couple of Quaker meetings. I found the "unprogrammed" and egalitarian nature of them to be rather appealing, and I agree completely with their dedication to pacifism.
However, I also found the lack of focus on the Scripture itself to be a little odd...the Quakers I know do not seem to care much for the discussion of specific theology. And I am not quite at ease with the doctrine of continuing revelation.

Super liberal. Mega - super liberal, even the "conservative" Quakers.
Do a search on Quaker owned businesses and see what you find, even on Quaker sites.

I once wanted to attend a programmed Quaker meeting (which are more evangelical in nature if they'd accept such a label), but there is only an unprogrammed meeting in my area. Checking into it further, while I also agree with their stance on pacifism and community involvement, I was a bit distressed at the Unitarian flavor of the unprogrammed meetings.

Is that intended as a slur or a compliment?
I was rather more interested in thoughts on their actual religious activities...like seachelle said, they have a distinctly Unitarian flavor which I found very strange, but I suppose that is a consequence of the nature of the meets.

I am not supposed to post here I guess, but I have to comment as most of my family are or were Quakers. Not all Quaker congregations are liberal. I've been to the one my mother used to attend and it was very evangelical, so please don't be so quick to judge.
