...as Christ loved the church. This the new command Jesus added in John, the OT is filled with we are to love others and the stranger among us but Jesus says to love others as He did. What does this mean to us literal types? Jesus healed, I don't have the power to heal. Jesus fed people, I can't invite the world to dinner...? Jesus raised the dead and died for us, I don't see crucifixtion in my future (at least hoping, gulp!) I don't mean to be flippant, I'm just trying to reconcile how a Christian should love others as Jesus did and specifically what that entails??? Any thoughts?:):

Gotcha...

The 'love' being referred to is 'agape' aka 'brotherly love, goodwill, benevolence'.

To quote Bill and Ted... "Be Excellent to each other"

Man!!!!

That ye love

Jhn 15:12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.

Jhn 15:13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

Jhn 15:17 These things I command you, that ye love one another.

Jhn 17:21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, [art] in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.

Lev 19:18 Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I [am] the LORD.

Lev 19:34 [But] the stranger that dwelleth with you shall be unto you as one born among you, and thou shalt love him as thyself; for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt: I [am] the LORD your God.

Psa 16:3 [But] to the saints that [are] in the earth, and [to] the excellent, in whom [is] all my delight.

Psa 119:63 I [am] a companion of all [them] that fear thee, and of them that keep thy precepts.

Rom 12:10 [Be] kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;

1Cr 12:26 And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it.

1Cr 12:27 Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.

1Cr 13:4 Charity suffereth long, [and] is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,

1Cr 13:5 Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;

1Cr 13:6 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;

1Cr 13:7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.

Gal 5:6 For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love.

Gal 5:13 For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only [use] not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.

Gal 5:14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, [even] in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

Gal 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

Gal 6:10 As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all [men], especially unto them who are of the household of faith.

Eph 5:2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.

Phl 2:1 If [there be] therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies,

Phl 2:2 Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, [being] of one accord, of one mind.

Phl 2:3 [Let] nothing [be done] through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.

Phl 2:4 Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.

Phl 2:5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

Col 1:4 Since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus, and of the love [which ye have] to all the saints,

Col 3:12 Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;

Col 3:13 Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also [do] ye.

1Th 3:12 And the Lord make you to increase and abound in love one toward another, and toward all [men], even as we [do] toward you:

1Th 4:9 But as touching brotherly love ye need not that I write unto you: for ye yourselves are taught of God to love one another.

1Th 4:10 And indeed ye do it toward all the brethren which are in all Macedonia: but we beseech you, brethren, that ye increase more and more;

2Th 1:3 We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is meet, because that your faith groweth exceedingly, and the charity of every one of you all toward each other aboundeth;

Hbr 13:1 Let brotherly love continue.

Jam 2:8 If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well:

1Pe 1:22 Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, [see that ye] love one another with a pure heart fervently:

1Pe 3:8 Finally, [be ye] all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, [be] pitiful, [be] courteous:

1Pe 3:9 Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.

2Pe 1:7 And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.

1Jo 4:7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.

1Jo 4:8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

1Jo 4:9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.

1Jo 4:10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son [to be] the propitiation for our sins.

1Jo 4:11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.

1Jo 4:21 And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.

1Jo 5:1 Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.

So what this means personally to me...is...? I'm feeling a little dense, I don't know what God's plan is for me, how He wants to use me to fullfill the above. Does everyone know what God wants them to do with the talents He has given them? How does He tell them?

we must be willing to lay down our life for our brother as christ layed down his life that is key to God kinda love..

Beleve in Your brother as Christ believed in you ...

Remember it the words of cain "Am I my Brothers keeper" The answer is yes we all are :)

Gods love is unconditional as he died and loved us while we were still in our sin.

1Jo 2:10 He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him.

1Jo 2:11 But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes.

1Jo 3:12 Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother's righteous.

Laying down one life does not mean crucifixtion laying down ones life could mean simplly giving up that long awaited night out for a brother who has a problem to talk be and pray with him..

lay down your life can mean setting your self and your thing aside for just a bit for another or surendering all.

I think we need to have the same type of love Christ had for the world, but also realize our own circumstances and our spiritual gifts and talents. If we use them wisely, they will enhace the love we show to the world around us, and will encourage others to come to Christ, just as we’ve done.
