I know He grew in wisdom, but did He study the word while He was a child?

from Webster's 1913:

Wisdom

Wis"dom (-d&ucr;m), n. [AS. w&imac;sd&omac;m. See Wise, a., and -dom.]

1. The quality of being wise; knowledge, and the capacity to make due use of it; knowledge of the best ends and the best means; discernment and judgment; discretion; sagacity; skill; dexterity.

We speak also not in wise words of man's wisdom, but in the doctrine of the spirit. Wyclif (1 Cor. ii. 13).

Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding. Job xxviii. 28.

It is hoped that our rulers will act with dignity and wisdom that they will yield everything to reason, and refuse everything to force. Ames.

Common sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom. Coleridge.

2. The results of wise judgments; scientific or practical truth; acquired knowledge; erudition.

Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was mighty in words and in deeds. Acts vii. 22.

Scripturally speaking, to gain in "wisdom" meant "study of the Scriptures".

So to answer your question, ... yes. :nod

From scripture:

Luk 2:40 The Child continued to grow and become strong, increasing in wisdom; and the grace of God was upon Him.

Luk 2:41 Now His parents went to Jerusalem every year at the Feast of the Passover.

Luk 2:42 And when He became twelve, they went up {there} according to the custom of the Feast;

Luk 2:43 and as they were returning, after spending the full number of days, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. But His parents were unaware of it,

Luk 2:44 but supposed Him to be in the caravan, and went a day's journey; and they {began} looking for Him among their relatives and acquaintances.

Luk 2:45 When they did not find Him, they returned to Jerusalem looking for Him.

Luk 2:46 Then, after three days they found Him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both listening to them and asking them questions.

Luk 2:47 And all who heard Him were amazed at His understanding and His answers.

Luk 4:15 And He {began} teaching in their synagogues and was praised by all.

Luk 4:16 And He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up; and as was His custom, He entered the synagogue on the Sabbath, and stood up to read.

Luk 4:17 And the book of the prophet Isaiah was handed to Him. And He opened the book and found the place where it was written,

Luk 4:18 "THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD IS UPON ME, BECAUSE HE ANOINTED ME TO PREACH THE GOSPEL TO THE POOR. HE HAS SENT ME TO PROCLAIM RELEASE TO THE CAPTIVES, AND RECOVERY OF SIGHT TO THE BLIND, TO SET FREE THOSE WHO ARE OPPRESSED,

Luk 4:19 TO PROCLAIM THE FAVORABLE YEAR OF THE LORD."

Luk 4:20 And He closed the book, gave it back to the attendant and sat down; and the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on Him.

Luk 4:21 And He began to say to them, "Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing."

Based on the above, I would also say yes. The passages in Luke tell me that even at 12 years old, Jesus was astonishing the "teachers". And then when Jesus was reading from Isaiah, He knew that scripture was describing Him.

I'm certain He was well-read and versed in the OT.
