From the book:
Streams of Living Water by Richard J. Foster.
It is critical that we learn to discern between primary and secondary issues if we are to keep from majoring in minor matters. Old-fashioned common sense is sufficient to show us the difference in most cases, but the following principle can also help: the closer the issue comes to the heart of the Christ event - Jesus' birth, life, death, and resurrection - the more it becomes a matter of primary importance. Using that standard, we see that if we are discussing the book of Job is literal history or a literary device to teach religious truth, we are considering a matter of secondary importance -important certainly, but secondary. But if we are discussing Jesus' resurrection from the dead, we are addressing an issue of primary importance, for it is right at the heart of the Christ event.

Good ole fashoin Common Sense as you say is really Relying on our Old Flesh self What is primary when it COme To The Lord and his Word is Relying On the Lord Wisdom will and ablity being COmpletely Dependent on him for all things..
Good ole fashion Common sense no longer Cut it in the New Life We have we are no longer self serveing what so ever and we no longer belong to our self or the world.

Oh I'm not so sure common sense goes out the door when we become a christian, dman. Jesus used it enough times to show it has more sense then we realize. Healing a man on the Sabbath, for instance. The idea expressed here seems pretty biblical in many ways. Too many want to uphold others to their teaching or moral code, and that lacks common biblical sense, thats for sure.

I would agree Sense don't Go out the widow when we became Christian How I think it depends on where one came from as to weather they could say Good old fashion common sense ..
Christ used Godly Wisdom mixed With sense learned from the father he was always about his fathers Business and never dependent on him self or his own will or power .
I dont know about all Christians But Where many Come from before they find christ there common sense was more insanity a road that was leading to detruction...
one might say when we Find Christ and learn that we can do nothing without him completely dependent on him sense Comes in the Window so to speak But not our Good ole common sense but his..

Maybe 'perfect sense' is the best way to say it. Jesus makes perfect sense. A combination of godly wisdom and common sense. Paul displayed a lot of this as well. Many who believe themselves to be, umm, lofty, have lost their 'love sense'. As such, what ever we give, without love, it is nothing. I'm not implying this about you btw, just some random thoughts. Sounds like the makings of a poem to me. lol

Generally speaking, there are three levels of Christian belief. Dogma is the highest. One really cannot be a Christian without believing these things. Second, is doctrine. These are important, but not matters of salvation. Third is opinion. These things can really go either way.
