Mat 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
What is the "will of my Father" here? I want to make sure I'm doing it.

Seems to me that the biggest thing God wants us to do is to believe on the One He has sent. In other words, to ask Jesus into our hearts and have a relationship with Him.

I'll give you a point to start at:
Rom 8:29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate [to be] conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.
Rom 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what [is] that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
And.. Psalm 119 is ALL about The Son, and who He is, and how we are to be. :):

Thank you for your answers :): I'm a little disappointed that more people didn't weigh in on it. I was really interested in hearing everyone's thoughts.
BTW That verse was part of my scripture reading for last night and it got me to thinking. ;):

Jesus said it best and it about sums it up as clear as can possibly be ... John 6:38-40
(38) For I came down from Heaven, not to do My own will but the will of Him who sent Me.
(39) And this is the will of the Father who sent Me, that of all which He has given Me I should lose nothing but should raise it up again at the last day.
(40) And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes on Him should have everlasting life. And I will raise him up at the last day.Amen.

Here's my two cents... First of all, I believe that the Apostle Paul shows that the "will of God" is more "generic" in nature. Some Christians spend significant emotional energy trying to figure out if they are in or out of the will of God. For example, they worry about whether they would be in or out of the will of God if they took a job at ABC company vs. XYZ company? Rather, I believe that scripture shows that God wants the individual believer to apply their spiritual knowledge to each situation and make an intelligent decision on their own (i.e. it is more generic than specific).
Borrowing the same passage that Ants provided and backing up one verse for additional amplification:
Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
The will of God is that we should live for him, not be conformed to the world, and transformed by renewing our mind. We renew our minds in knowledge, studying the word.
Colossians 3:10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him
Another example of the will of God is:
Ephesians 6:6 Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart;
Ephesians 6:7 With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men
How do you do the will of God from the heart?
Colossians 3:15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.
Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
Colossians 3:17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
Another example of the will of God is:
I Thessalonians 4:3 For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication
But finally, I believe this single verse best sums up the will of God for us in the dispensation of grace:
I Thessalonians 5:18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

I really like the bit bit about giving thanks, sometimes we take things for granted and don't even remember the person that blessed us. Well let's give thanks to G-d for everything.. :):

I was reminded here a while back of how giving thanks changes your attitude (Which is why I chose that as my current sig - it's also our churches sign this week) It can transform you from sitting in a hole of self-pity to dancing on mountain-tops.
Thank you for that scripture Timothy. For years I was one of those who said "God what is your will for me" Over time by frantically hunting for the place where I thought His "will" for me was- I'd walked in circles in the places He'd placed me and didn't even notice that I was already there. :dizzy
