Does it remain true to the Word of God?
There is a pocket electronic bible in the AS that I'm thinking about purchasing, but would like the opinions of the more knowledgeable believers on this one.
Please advise. :):

Yes, the American Standard version of the Bible is reliable. Many pastors use it.<><

Not so fast.
Lets take the briefest look at the ASV.
The American Standard Version was released 20 years after its sister translation, the RV of 1881.
The ASV is the American Counterpart to the Revised Version of 1881. With minor exceptions, they are Both Westcott and Hort Bibles in English. (It was released 20 years later than its sister version because of a contractual obligation).
They (ASV & RV) are both from the Greek Text of Westcott and Hort.
There are thousands (3000 or more) differences between the Greek Text of Westcott & Hort and the historic Bible used by Christian Protestants (which was the KJV and the Geneva Bible before that). Both Westcott and Hort denied that salvation is by faith in Jesus Christ alone plus nothing. Both were trying to replace the Protestant New Testament in Greek with another version (which is what they accomplished).
Many pastors Do use the American Standard Version. You will find it used by those mostly in Higher Protestant denominations.
A book that compares the RV/ASV to the historic Textus Receptus is "The Revision Revised" by Burgon.
If you are totally unfamiliar with the KJV and want a good & accurate English Bible, you could try the Version of Jay Green (of the Trinitarian Bible Society) who has versions online and versions available at Amazon.
Yes, some pastors Do use the ASV, but many evangelical pastors today also use a corrupt Greek New Testament prepared by the Roman Catholic Church also.
Food for thought.

See for yourself. Find a copy online. I am sure their is one out there somewhere and I believe e-sword has one available for download. Do your OWN comparisons as you will find those both for and against. I don't have a problem with it as you can find the diety of Christ, salvation, etc in it just as well as the KJV.

Is the ASV the same as the New American Standard? I've read and heard that the New ASV is the closest to original language.

The American Standard Version is the ancestor to the New American Standard Version. But both of them relied on the text of Westcott & Hort.
