Ok here goes, for the past say 7-8 months whenever I lay in my bed about to go to sleep I get these random images that just pop in my head. The images are totally random this only happens about 5 minutes before I go to bed because whenever I lay in bed and start seeing these images I know I will be asleep in 5 minutes or less. I also do know that right when I go to bed I do not have to go into REM to start dreaming its seems like the instant I fall asleep I am in my dream. Does this happen to anyone else?

Happens to me quite often when I am falling asleep. Do a search for Hypnagogic imagery

No, just you two, you are both weird and whacked out and there is no known medical cure for either of you. The rest of us here live perfect lives and have no bizarre abnormalities like you two freaks.

Oh boy I just took a quick glance a what you mentioned and I started to get the jitters. From what I seen real quick pretty much describes what I am expericencing. I didn't even mention the other stuff that happens to me but it does not happen that often but from what I seen this is describing it all. I do not know if this is a bad thing or not but I am gonna research it further. Thank You

Are you overly tired? When I was in bootcamp, it seemed like I started dreaming every time I blinked. :lol

I do not seem overly tired after doing a little more study on this it seems to be I might have had this all my life. They say symptoms of Hypnagogic imagery include "Also typical in the early stages of sleep is the myoclonic jerk, which often occurs when people imagine that they are stumbling down steps a sensation of falling." Now I had that pretty much all my life and they say another thing is that you will hear voices right between the falling asleep stage and dream state which I do. Ok now I was use too all that but recently when I lay down about 5 minutes before im ready to be out for the night I get the random images. I do nothing to try to provoke this it just happens. I only know that now when the images happen I will be sleeping in 5 minutes or less. I am just mainly concerned about these images now because it seems I have no control over them. I have never told anyone about this but I am bringing it here to see if I am the only christain like this and to possibly get some advice on what to do.

see a psychologist. just call and scheduele a session and ask. there might be something interesting he can tell you or help you connect it to soemthing in your life. and don't worry about getting pilled, phsychologists can't perscribe.

I had that thing where you jerk right after you fall asleep... lo and behold I wasn't getting enough sleep.

I think maybe I should see a psychologist, I did not know if this was normal or not. Seems like this should not be happening. So you say the whole falling down and waking up with the big jerk symptom thing is from not getting enough sleep?

You are completely normal.

Quit teasing poor mike, painkiller and Daisy Cutter.

As far as the "random image" thing... switch to decaf. It will do wonders for you ...

Yep, too much cafeine before bed makes me see "images." Not only that but the images are sometimes big and poofy like parade balloons. :wacko

Are the images kinda like... faces that morph (rather quickly, and move in an upward motion?) into another face? Or... objects? Are they kinda "behind" your eye lids? Are they in gray and white?

Yes they are faces of people I know and they are of objects, its like I will just be laying there in bed and BAM I get a random image it only lasts a second or less then I get another one say within 30 seconds of that one, it just keeps repeating after(different images) that until I fall asleep. The images are not scary though they are just a nusiance because it seems like I have no real control over it.

So you mentioned are they behind my eyelids, I don't know, the best I can compare it to is like seeing an image on a movie screen. Its not like when your thinking of something though because these images are much clearer. Although I never had one(atleast I don't think so) I would probably even compare it to a vision, if thats what a vision is? Also they are all in color.

If they are completely random, then they are probably nothing to be concerned with,,, ( in other words, if they don't make any sense) IF they begin to interfere with your sleep, then If I were you I would try to figure out what may be causing them. It could be anything, from something you have eaten, to any medication you might be taking. It may simply be your mind getting rid of 'extra' stuff.. as you relax toward sleep. :):
