I'd love to see those articles. Always good to gain knowledge against popular false teachers.

I'll put in a new thread.......there will be several threads- each dealing with seperate topics and misinterpretations/heresay's of scripture... (purpose filled church/life).

I've been studying this along with the seeker sensitive movement and am horrified at what I'm finding out. I'd always thought of PDL/PDC/seeker stuff as being wrong but benign, more along the lines of a doctrinal disagreement. Now I think they're both incredibly dangerous to the body of Christ.
JesusDied4u, you might also be interesting in looking up Modernism in the church from the 1800's. The exact same thing was going on back then.

We must be very careful who we listen to, and even more careful as to what we believe, checking everything with the final court of arbitration, the word of God.
Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils. 1 Timothy 4:1

I saw him on the Today Show day before yesterday. I didn't see the entire interview, just most of it. I was VERY disappointed (though not surprised) that Jesus' name was not connected to the created purpose of man Rick spoke about. Unless he mentioned Jesus' name at the very beginning of the interview, I did not hear it at all. The way he spoke, he could have been your average run of the mill pop psychologist selling a book............... :(:

I've been speaking out against Rick Warren and his "movement" here on RR for the last few years. I have a link in my sig to my (condensed) testimony in a purpose driven church. Also on my site is several links to websites that expose Rick Warren and his "movement."
God bless!

Thank you SeaDreamer. I really appreciate you using it and, please, forward the link on to as many folks as you can. That was my goal in making that site. The church needs to know what is going on.

wow! Rebecki..i just visited your site and some of the other links and i am in shock! i had no idea what was behind this whole purpose driven movement. our church has embraced the thing and made it gospel. i have to admit it made me uncomfortable soley because I think the Word is enough, we dont need to all blindly follow one mans idea of what the church should be. now that i know....i just dont know what to think or what to do! these are very scary times we live in and the only hope we have is to be so saturated in the Word and in intimate realtionship with Jesus that these kinds of deceptions that are bound to come will have no power over us.
to be honest though....i am so sad....i am scared for my church:( we havebeen going there for 7 years and the people are family to me.

My church is also going through the 40 days of purpose right now. We meet in a small group every week. I did send a link to our associate minister on it but have received no reply. Either he's too busy to read all his mail or he doesn't know what to say. It is rather concerning. I can't really see our church abandoning the Bible, though. I'll just be glad when it's over.

I doubt it highly. When he was on Dateline he said his business was getting people into Heaven...and yet he had nothing to say about Jesus then either. So he's got a watered down theology that is useless. It's feel good theology.

to be honest though....i am so sad....i am scared for my church:( we havebeen going there for 7 years and the people are family to me.Tankermom, I'm glad that my website helped. I, too, was sad when I realized what was going on. We had been there for 6 1/2 years when the scales fell off my eyes. But, it took being spiritually abused for me to see it. Many of my friends saw it too and they left the same time we did. There were two exodus' of groups who left that church. The first one when we left, and all because they had come to the same realizations (Word of God absent, theatrics, lukewarmness) and that first group was a major percentage of the older, more mature, TITHING, Christians. The second group left two years later when the Pastor was being spiritually abused by the elders and other pastors. Those that were loyal to him left with him and they all have formed their own church now.
When we began going to that church I was only about 3-4 years old in the Lord. I was still learning and growing in the basics, so we just did all the stuff that they said we "should" be doing. After we realized what was going on and we left, it really did a number on my faith. In fact, we didn't steadily go to church again for two years. We found a Calvary Chapel to attend, but did not go on a regular basis, and the people there were not very friendly. I struggled spiritually for those two years, struggled with my faith and wondered if I was even really a Christian.
God is so good though, he lead us to the church where we attend now, and most of those folks that left when we did attend there also. The pastor is AGAINST the pdl movment and he preaches Christ crucified and he preaches about sin and it's consequences and how God does not bless a sinful lifestyle, etc. It's a wonderful place to be.
Truly, all we need is the the whole Word of God. We do not need a praise band, music that changes week to week, seeker sensitive motivational sermons, dramas, and apathetic fellowship. Just God's Word, prayer, and true loving fellowship.
:hugs I know how you feel. PM me anytime you want to discuss what you are feeling. I've been there.
