I have been wondering this for a long time. I have always wondered if god controls the love that is shared between a man and a woman. I know true love is amazing and I know that only he could create that feeling in our hearts for someone but does he chose for whom we have the feelings for? Is that why maybe they say true love dont go away ever?

You know, I don't really have an answer for your question. But I have often wondered this myself. I know that He can help to keep the love alive between a couple, if they keep thier eyes on Him. I wonder if He can after that couple has forsaken thier own love for eachother.
I have asked this question many times, in many different variables.

The first thing I thought of when reading your question was.... God IS love. It's an incredible study. The love God has for us, and the love we can have for each other because of Him. Also, there are three different kinds of "love" that scripture talks about.
The more I learn about Him and love, the more I am convinced that love is not really the "feeling", it is a "choice". We choose to love.
I don't know if this really helps answer your question or not, but felt I should share it :wave

Everything that is good comes from God, and everything that is evil is something God made for good and satan and man have in turn twisted.
Love is good and comes from God, but can be twisted into something selfish or not good.

Do you mean "are some marriages made in heaven"? I believe that some are ... but of course some aren't.
I'm very sure that my wife and the circumstances of our meeting etc. were "arranged" by God. No doubt about it.

Thank you for all your responses. I just think that nobody but the Lord could be responsible for such a love toward someone.

I think that God could control your love, but only if you ask Him. The Holy Spirit is a gentleman, He does not come to you uninvited.

The Holy Spirit is a gentleman, He does not come to you uninvited. I have heard this a few times lately.
The Holy Spirit is not a gentlemen ... the Holy Spirit is God. I would read again the story of Saul's conversion (Paul) and I ask the question how did Saul invite God? :confused
Saul was God's enemy. In every way. Paul called himself "chief of sinners"...
He was rounding up believers (men, women and children) for jail or worse punishment. But he actually had run outa Christians in Jerusalem after they had scattered at Stephens stoning to death... at which Paul was the cheerleader... collecting the coats of those who threw stones. So he then headed on up to Damascus... because he heard of an enclave of believers there!!! ... Lord Jesus had other plans. Knocked him to the ground then blinded him and took it from there...

I think you are right, Blitzkrieg. But that happened only when God had a very special plan for them. Those people you mention were drawn into His plan wether they liked it or not (Jonah). But I think in the life of most people the Holy Spirit will enter only if you ask Him in prayer. He can draw you to Him, try to convince you, He can knock on your door, but I think that you have to open it yourself. If you do not open it, He will not enter. It's a matter of choice, free will. I think satan however will come uninvited, like a burglar, like a snake, not through the door, but through the window.(John 10:1)

Who is the gatekeeper and who are the sheep? Do the sheep choose the shepherd?

Well, I agree this a difficult one, becouse Jesus says that he is both the door and the good shepperd.
I think in this verse the gatekeeper is the one who let's the good shepperd into his home (his choice is to open the door, and his choice is to let the shepperd in.)
The sheep could be His flock, His people.
The sheep do not choose their sheppard, but they can choose to run away from him (Jesus wants us all to be a part of his flock, but many resist.)
I think Jesus' grace is the way (the door) to let Him (as the Holy Spirit) in to your house (life.)
The burglars are false prophets, satan, or just bad people who want to steal sheep away from Him.
Something like that... I think... :rolleyes

I would read again the story of Saul's conversion (Paul) and I ask the question how did Saul invite God? :confused.I have always felt that Saul was sincere in his desire to serve God, although self-righteous and in total error and sin in what he did.
BTW Blitz, I promise I am not trying to pick on you :lol

I believe God will teach us to love but we must be willing to obey what He tells us. For instance, if God tells us to forgive our spouse and we refuse to that will hinder love.
