View Full Version : What is a Labyrinth in regards to Christian worship?

My friend, who I would not call a Christian, told me he "walked a Labyrinth" this weekend at an Episcopal church. I looked it up and found that it has something to do with walking a circular path (like a maze, but without dead ends) and meditating while doing so. He joked that he had accepted Christ, and then said that people were singing hymns while he walked it. I've never heard of this before - does anyone know more about them and what scriptural or spiritual value they hold for the true Christian? Is it just liberal church mumbo-jumbo, or is there something to it?

:(: :tsk

Labyrinths are a part of pagan worship. Back in the middle ages it was incorporated into the catholic church as part of the "worship experience". You're supposed to walk it and cant prayers. If you aren't doing that and you're in the C.C. or a church that hasn't departed far from that (Episc./Lutheran/Anglican) - you pray the rosary or pray/cant prayers.

It isn't something we should be doing as believers if you ask me, considering it was not something that G-d had in His plan for us worshipping Him, and it was from pagan sources- not to mention that G-d said that he does not like repetitive prayers.

I used to have tons of info on it, but I lost it when I had to reformat my hard-drive about a year ago. :sigh
