It occured to me today... I was curious to what God looks like.. and I came to a very simple resolution when reading my Bible today....
I think whatever your image of God is, The Creator, appears in that form, to make you feel more at ease.
What about you?
Edit to include: We're talking about the looks of Jesus' Father.. not Jesus.. just to make it clear what I'm asking.. :laugh

I think he looked like Jesus, since Jesus was God in human, whereas God himself is spirit. I think.

i have always wondered what God looks like, ever since i was little.
it puzzles me almost ever day trying to comprehend it.

i am going to have to disagree. there is nothing in our measly human minds that can begin to even comprehend what the Father and His glory looks like.
we just simply cannot fathom it.
edited to add: daisy cutter is right.........the Father is spirit, and therefor invisible.

God is an INV. Spirit. There is a verse in THE BIBLE that says something like this---- Jesus speaking----If you"ve seen me you"ve seen THE FATHER for THE FATHER and I are ONe.----Gail

Joh 6:45-46
(45) It is written in the Prophets, "And they shall all be taught of God." Therefore everyone who hears and learns from the Father comes to Me.
(46) Not that anyone has seen the Father, except He who is from God, He has seen the Father.

Sounds weird I know...but I've always seen him as looking like Santa. Kind of that old but warm, all knowing, freindly face....."Come over here and sit on my lap" kind of thing....

True story.
I wasn't thinking about God, but I was thinking about angels. To be specific, my guardian angel. I believed that she was real, and, as the result of one very intriguing dream, I even felt I had a name for her. But one evening I became consumed with the question of what she would look like when I first saw her. I mean, I have my own mental images of what an angel 'should' look like--but what if that wasn't what she really was? But if I did see her 'true' self--what if that wasn't as satisfying as my preconcieved notions?
I was arguing in a circle, and I knew I was arguing in a circle. I knew the problem was unspeakably trivial; even so, it was important to me. The more I pondered the question, the more frustrated I became. Just when I felt like I could never have a satisfactory answer to that question, I heard somebody say, very close and clear, "What if what I really am, at rock bottom, is somebody who loves you so much that I want to be everything you've ever dreamed of?"
I will never forget that moment.

No man has seen the face of God.
In Exodus 33, Moses built a tent outside of the camp, and when he went inside, a wall of cloud would descend so that he would be in the tent with YHWH.
When Moses asked to see God's face, here is what God said:
Exodus 33:
17So the LORD said to Moses, "I will also do this thing that you have spoken; for you have found grace in My sight, and I know you by name."
18And he said, "Please, show me Your glory."
19Then He said, "I will make all My goodness pass before you, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before you. I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion." 20But He said, "You cannot see My face; for no man shall see Me, and live." 21And the LORD said, "Here is a place by Me, and you shall stand on the rock. 22So it shall be, while My glory passes by, that I will put you in the cleft of the rock, and will cover you with My hand while I pass by. 23Then I will take away My hand, and you shall see My back; but My face shall not be seen."
So, no man has seen God's face, only his Glory. Moses saw God's back.

From Robert Jamieson, A. R. Fausset and David Brown Commentary Critical and Explanatory on the Whole Bible:
Exo 33:18-23 - I beseech thee, show me thy glory--This is one of the most mysterious scenes described in the Bible: he had, for his comfort and encouragement, a splendid and full display of the divine majesty, not in its unveiled effulgence, but as far as the weakness of humanity would admit. The face, hand, back parts, are to be understood figuratively.

This has been me lately, trying to imagine what God looks like and coming to this conclusion.
How can we even begin to comprehend the glory of God?
But it is nice to think on God and His glory. Very humbling too. :nod

Well, at least we know He has a hand and a back, and in the process of elimination, a front as well.

Thanks for the angel references. I will read up on them. My next door neighbor was asking me about angels the other day. I knew of the ones that appeared at Jesus' tomb when the women came after He was risen, the ones in Revelations, the time of Jesus' temptation by Satan in the desert after Jesus fasted, the ones appearing to Daniel, and a couple other references.
I appreciate it. I will go back and read those verses in context of the chapters in which they appear.

I have a question: why do we interpret this as figuratively? In the rest of that Chapter of Exodus, it's fairly literal. Just a question. :)

Wonderful imagery is used in the Old Testament and without looking carefully it might be easy to mistake it so there is no easy rule.
Here from the ISBE a little lesson on "Wings" and no... some folks have the mistaken ideas that Angels... and even God... might have feathers:
The wings of a dove symbolized love. Wings in the abstract typified shelter, strength or speed, as a rule, while in some instances their use was ingenious and extremely poetical, as when Job records that the Almighty used wings to indicate migration: “And stretcheth her wings toward the south” (Job_39:26). In Psa_17:8 there is a wonderful poetical imagery in the plea, “Hide me under the shadow of thy wings.” In Psa_18:10 there is a reference to “the wings of the wind.” And in Psa_55:6 the Psalmist cries, “Oh that I had wings like a dove!” The brightness and peace of prosperous times are beautifully described in Psa_68:13, the wings of a dove covered with silver, and her pinions with pale green gold.' The first rays of dawn are compared to “the wings of the morning” (Psa_139:9). Solomon was thinking of the swiftness of wings when he said, “For riches' certainly make themselves wings, like an eagle that flieth toward heaven” (Pro_23:5). So also was Isaiah in Isa_40:31, “They that wait for Yahweh shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; they shall walk, and not faint.” In Mal_4:2 the King James Version, there is a beautiful reference, “But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings.” the Revised Version (British and American) changes “his” to “its.” Wings as an emblem of love were used by Jesus in the cry, “O Jerusalem ... how often would I have gathered thy children ... as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings” (Mat_23:37).

Trying to imagine what God looks like . . . . :confused
:boom
God is the Source of Light, Truth, Goodness, Love, etc. He is Omniscient, Omnipotent and Omnipresent. He created TIME for crying out loud! He knew me before I was even created - and that goes for every human ever created - past, present and future.
In light of that, any attempt on my brain to comprehend what Almighty God looks like, please refer to the last smilie posted above.
:D:
As a kid, I was TERRIFIED of God - I thought that a mere breath or sigh from Him would dissolve me within a nanosecond, He who demands holy reverence. But now I understand that He wants me to get to know Him - better each day. So I view him now more as a perfect guide and less as a completely wrathful deity. Yep - He loves me - and all of you too! :thumb
So perhaps since God is Spirit, the whole "embracing God" from a literal, parent-to-sibling viewpoint may not work. But hey, I honestly think we'll get to embrace Jesus - now think on THAT for a while . . . :thumb (I have my ideas as to what Jesus will look like - and then I have this feeling that I'll be completely surprised - but instantly know who He is. :clap

"Where is God's back? Is there any place behind his back? He is everywhere present, and everywhere seen. It must be nowhere at all. Our sins are thrown into the nowhere."

I also remember the part with moses and no man can look into his "face" and live,
To me that conjures the idea of pure light so powerful like a thousand suns that would incinerate our mortal flesh much like a huge magnifying glass would burn an ant in the noonday sun...
