If I see a Jewish church (is that what it's called?) with the term "messianic" in it can I assume it teaches Jesus? That it's Jewish believers?

I'd like to try one here in town.

I'd like to try one here in town. "Messianic Jewish" means Jews who believe Jesus was/is the Messiah.

Id like to find something similar in MY area as well (Central NH)

Hey - we've got a WalMart...and a 'nightclub' made out of concrete blocks named 'Bubba's'. They serve 'cocktails' out of mason jars stored in a pickup truck out back...

Yes, they are Jews who keep the Hebraic customs in their services, and believe in Jesus.
If you find one they most likely meet on Friday nights.

Here's a couple of links, might help you find one:

http://www.messianic.com/

http://www.messianic.com/top/

The second link has a list of congregations.

Thanks for the links, Cenimo and everybody else who responded. I didn't know what about Friday night meetings. Being a night owl that would work out well for me but not mom. She goes to bed at dusk. :lol

I see this question was already put on the board a few threads above mine. I'll go read that thread too. :doh

Not sure where in Florida you are...but I've heard good things about Beth Sar Shalom in Boca Raton. I'm sure there are others in Florida that are good, but just be careful. Messianic groups are as diverse, if not more son, than some denominations. Some Messianic groups are not at all understanding of dispensationalism, and in their naivete they are against it.

Shalom,
Matthew

I've found 3 that are nearby, Matthew. (I'm about 4 hours north of Boca, a little too far) Unfortunately 2 don't have websites and the one that is online says nothing about end times although the rest of their statement is in right on. It'll just have to be trial and error and I'll probably drive by the closest one to see if they have any info to give out on their beliefs. :):

Close. It's "Sarge's". But - it does hold a place of distinction. The group 'Alabama' used to play there (while they were still 'Wild Country' or whatever it was). Real redneck stuff. :D:

Good for you in being so particular! I'll be praying you find a wonderful church home.

I went to a Messianic Congregation for some time (about a year). I have always been blessed by Messianic teaching and traditions and I love the Jews and Israel, I have been involved with Jews For Jesus over the years...after some time the Holy Spirit convicted me that the time spent in "ceremony" (up to 45 minutes) would better serve my spiritual growth in the study of His Word. I was used to Calvary Chapel verse by verse through the bible teaching.. so went back to that. The Lord also led me to reread Galatians again "before" I started attending the Congregation, which now that I look back was His way of speaking to me. Just my observation....Messianic Congregations can be a blessing but they can also be prone to legalism, so just be careful you find a good one.
I found this comment by Dave Hunt on target..

"Many congregations of Jewish believers are very Biblical; but others have, as you suggest, fallen into legalism by putting themselves to some extent under the law of Moses. Calling themselves completed Jews (an unbiblical term), they think it helps to adopt Old Testament Jewish customs. In contrast, the Bible says there is neither Jew nor Gentile (Gal. 3:28) in the church, but Christ has made from Jew and Gentile "one new man" (Eph. 2:15).
Paul rebuked Peter for going back to Jewish separatism and for compelling "the Gentiles to live as do the Jews" (Gal. 2:14). The entire epistle to the Galatians argues against any Christian (Jew or Gentile) observing the Old Testament law. We have a higher standard: to be like Jesus by letting Him live His life through us. Jewish customs have no value in Christ's Church.
The freedom we have in Christ from the law of Moses and from Jewish legalism and customs was difficult for the first Jewish converts to accept. The apostles and elders gathered in Jerusalem to consider this issue and under God's guidance declared that the Gentile believers were not under the law (Acts 15).
What about Jewish believers? There is no difference (Rom. 10:12) between them and Gentiles in Christ, for He has "broken down the middle wall of partition" (Eph.2:14) between them having "blott[ed] out the handwriting of ordinances [the law] that was against us ... nailing it to his cross" (Col. 2:14). Jews may honor their ancestral heritage (in the passover, etc.) but must not mix Jewishness with faith in Christ.
Messianic congregations who are trying to act Jewish need to heed Paul's exhortation: "Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage [law]" (Gal. 5:1). "

Billiefan, I'm in Florida...I think it may be too long of a drive. ;):

Thanks for the article and feedback, Bondservant. You know someone once told me they'd been to a couple and found them too legalistic. This person is heavily into WOF though so I dismissed their opinion.

Interestingly enough I just found out couple days ago that we have a Calvary Chapel locally. It came highly recommended.

In any case, I'll be visiting (and praying about) a few churches in the next few weeks. I'd love to find a combination of the two since I'm fascinated by the jewish perspective but that verse by verse style of teaching really appeals to me also. :):
