Hi ~
I'm having a conversation with a friend who says that God only wants us to eat plants - that we really shouldn't be eating a lot of meat - that when Adam and Eve were in the Garden of Eden, God only told them what 'plants' to eat, meat was not mentioned.
Can you point me to the verse that says in the latter days a lot of people will not eat meat - and that being a sign of the end times. I think it is in Revelation, but I'm not sure........
I probably have this totally wrong...........but I do appreciate your help! (I'm at work, otherwise I would search myself.) :):
THANK YOU!

1 Timothy 4 (NASB)
1 But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons,
2 by means of the hypocrisy of liars seared in their own conscience as with a branding iron,
3 men who forbid marriage and advocate abstaining from foods which God has created to be gratefully shared in by those who believe and know the truth.
4 For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with gratitude;
5 for it is sanctified by means of the word of God and prayer.

In Genesis 3:21 God made tunics of skin and clothed Adam and Eve. I believe this was the first animal sacrifice.
In Genesis 4:2 we are told that Abel was a keeper of the sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground (which was cursed by the way).
Abel's offering was respected by the Lord, but Cain's was not.
Eating meat, IMHO, goes right back to the beginning of time.

Veggies first...
Gen 1:29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which [is] upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which [is] the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.
Then, post flood...
Gen 9:1 And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth.
Gen 9:2 And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every fowl of the air, upon all that moveth [upon] the earth, and upon all the fishes of the sea; into your hand are they delivered.
Gen 9:3 Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things.
Does that help?

At the time before the fall, Gen 1:30 states that every living creature ate green plants for food; however, after the fall in Gen 9, Noah is told he can eat anything that moves.
I personally, do not believe in the vegetarian diet because I would lack adequate protein unless I labored to get all the correct veggies to supply it. Anyhey, everything is ok if we receive it with thanksgiving (1 Tim 4:4).

Also, in Acts, God told peter that all things were now clean for them.
Acts 11:1-17 / NKJV
1Now the apostles and brethren who were in Judea heard that the Gentiles had also received the word of God. 2And when Peter came up to Jerusalem, those of the circumcision contended with him, 3saying, “You went in to uncircumcised men and ate with them!”
4But Peter explained it to them in order from the beginning, saying: 5“I was in the city of Joppa praying; and in a trance I saw a vision, an object descending like a great sheet, let down from heaven by four corners; and it came to me. 6When I observed it intently and considered, I saw four-footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, creeping things, and birds of the air. 7And I heard a voice saying to me, ‘Rise, Peter; kill and eat.’ 8But I said, ‘Not so, Lord! For nothing common or unclean has at any time entered my mouth.’ 9But the voice answered me again from heaven, ‘What God has cleansed you must not call common.’ 10Now this was done three times, and all were drawn up again into heaven. 11At that very moment, three men stood before the house where I was, having been sent to me from Caesarea. 12Then the Spirit told me to go with them, doubting nothing. Moreover these six brethren accompanied me, and we entered the man’s house. 13And he told us how he had seen an angel standing in his house, who said to him, ‘Send men to Joppa, and call for Simon whose surname is Peter, 14who will tell you words by which you and all your household will be saved.’ 15And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell upon them, as upon us at the beginning. 16Then I remembered the word of the Lord, how He said, ‘John indeed baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’ 17If therefore God gave them the same gift as He gave us when we believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I that I could withstand God?”

Um...is that different than, let's say, carnival game, circus game, or amusement park game...most of which, I am reasonably sure is mystery meat?

Hi ~
Can you point me to the verse that says in the latter days a lot of people will not eat meat - and that being a sign of the end times. I think it is in Revelation, but I'm not sure........
Just a point of clarification:
Paul is referring to "later times" - he says nothing about these things being a sign of the "end times".
During Paul's lifetime the heresy of gnosticism was beginning to form. One of the ideas of gnosticism was asceticism - the notion that in order to be a more faithful Christian one had to observe all sorts of rituals of self-denial. Paul frequently reminds believers in his letters (see also Galations and Colossians) that their salvation is found in the fullness of Christ and not in the rules and regulations prescribed by man.
Therefore Paul's statement about the "later times" is probably refering to the increasing influence of gnostic heresy in the early church, and not a prophecy about the end of the world in the 21st century.

Romans 14:6
He who regards one day as special, does so to the Lord. He who eats meat, eats to the Lord, for he gives thanks to God; and he who abstains, does so to the Lord and gives thanks to God.
1 Corinthians 10
24Nobody should seek his own good, but the good of others.
25Eat anything sold in the meat market without raising questions of conscience, 26for, "The earth is the Lord's, and everything in it."[1]
