A Picture Of A Fasle Prophet According To The Bible
The Bible sets crystal clear guidelines for a true prophet of the Most High God. These guidelines have not changed, they remain intact despite the current popular opinion of the day.
A popular teaching among "Christian leaders" is that a person giving a false prophecy is not a false prophet. Although the Bible is clear that a prophets words shall never fail, these false teachers claim that this is not true. Basically they are saying that the Bible is wrong, and when they give a false prophecy, they are still right. They claim that the Bible in no way speaks on this matter, how wrong they are.
One Evangelical newsletter has this to say:
"The fallible-prophet idea is a recent invention from the imagination of self-proclaimed prophets who are confronted with misses all the time. Men like Mike Bickle, Rick Joyner, Bob Jones, Jack Deere, and James Ryle have conspired to create a new paradigm of prophets who make mistakes in their predictions. This way anybody can do it. By their definition, anyone who can guess right a lot of the time can be a 'prophet.'"
Mike Bickle for example says, "Someone suggested that I write a follow up book that revealed all our mistakes in the prophetic ministry. He suggested I call it Some Said We Blundered. I almost agreed. Indeed, we've made many mistakes on our journey in the prophetic ministry."
Benny Hinn as well, "[Paul Cain] is the most accurate prophet, I believe, on the Earth today. ... Thank God for such accurate prophets."
Listen to Rick Joyner explain the fallible prophet, "Bob Jones was told that the general level of prophetic revelation in the church was about 65% accurate at this time. Some are only about 10% accurate, a very few of the most mature prophets are approaching 85% to 95% accuracy."
Let's look at another case, false teacher Mark Chironna is talking to false prophet Kim Clement on TBN. Another of Kim Clement's prophecies have failed, but rather than follow what clearly is taught in the Bible, these deceivers twist and add to scripture to suit their heretical teachings:
Mark Chironna: "This idea that prophets know everything or that, so called, they "miss it," you know, a false prophet - the most powerful prophecies about Israel in the Old Covenant were given by a false prophet named Balaam. He prophesied more glorious things about the history of Israel than anybody. A false prophet has nothing to do with the accuracy of a prophecy. We can argue about that with the, whoever wants to argue. A false prophet had to do with the character of their life. It had nothing to do with the accuracy of their prophecy. And we know your character. We know who you are. We love you.
Kim Clement: Well, take a look at this [pointing to his wedding band]. Put this camera on this ring of mine. The Bible says "by their fruits you shall know them." My wife and I have been married 25 years. We just celebrated our 25th anniversary [Applause]. And God bless her and I love her, but these are the five children she gave me, I think there, 5 diamonds in it for our 5 children. You know, they're so quick to speak about any little thing that - you know - but they don't look at the fruit of the person's life either. That's also very important."
(Mark Chironna & Kim Clement, Praise The Lord, Winter 2003)
Let us see what the Bible teaches on this subject, then compare it with the teachings of so many "Christian leaders" today. The Bible warns us not to follow men (Jeremiah 17:5, Psalm 118:8), but to test what all leaders teach with scripture (1 John 4:1, Acts 17:11). God even says that he will test us with false prophets to see if we truly love God with all of our heart (Deuteronomy 13:1-3). God even says that some of these false prophets will have signs and wonders that come to pass, thus emphasizing the importance to prove all things with scripture.
The Bible is very clear, after reading these verses you will have a choice, follow God or follow man. See what God has to say about this:
"Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD"
Jeremiah 17:5
"It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man."
Psalm 118:8
God Says That He will Test Us With False Prophets, To See If We Truly Love Him:
"If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonder, And the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them; Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the LORD your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul. Ye shall walk after the LORD your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and ye shall serve him, and cleave unto him."
Deuteronomy 13:1-4
God Gives Us A Simple Test To Try Prophets To See If They Are Actually Speaking For God. If Their Prophecy Fails, God Did Not Send Them:
"But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die. And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the LORD hath not spoken? When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him."
Deuteronomy 18:20-22
