I was raised Christian Scientist until I was about 11 or so.

They do not, if I can recall believe in redemption, or that Jesus is savior.

They believe that illness, pain and such does not exist, but that is exist only in mans mind, the that person brings this illness on by the thought.

They believe heavily in mind-over-matter.

God is Love and devine, their is no evil, but what man makes evil in his mind.

Alot of it I do not remember.

I do owe my mother for teaching me the love for God, which gave me that childhood base. but finding the truth as an adult, I am grateful to the Lord.

In actuality, I think in a way their healing power(that they think is mind over matter) is acutually just their strong faith of God, so therefore the result as of prayer would be, I know this may not have come our right, it is hard to explain.

Hello! I wrote up quite a bit on Christian Science. You can find it here:

http://www.geocities.com/christianconcerns/index.cultinfo.htm

Just scroll down until you get to Christian Science. There is an explanation, some links, and a letter I wrote to my father (who is still involved with Christian Science).

Christian Science is very similar to Hinduism & New Age. Modern writings openly discuss "becoming God."

Here, I'll just write the Tenets of the Mother Church from the church manual. I used to be a member while growing up.

l. As adherents of Truth, we take the inspired Word of the Bible as our sufficient guide to eternal Life.

2. We acknowledge and adore one supreme and infinite God. We acknowledge His Son, one Christ; the Holy Ghost or divine Comforter; and man in God's image and likeness.

3. We acknowledge God's forgiveness fo sin in the destruction of sin and the spiritual understanding that casts out evil as unreal. But the belief in sin is punished so long as the belief lasts.

4. We acknowledge Jesus' atonement as the evidence of divine, efficacious Love, unfolding man's unity with God through Christ Jesus the Way-shower; and we acknowledge that man is saved through Christ through Truth, Life, and Love as demonstrated by the Galilean Prophet in healing the sick and overcoming sin and death.

5. We acknowledge that the crucifixion of Jesus and his resurrection served to uplift faith to understand eternal Life, even the allness of Soul, Spirit, and the nothingness of matter.

6. And we solemnly promise to watch, and pray for that Mind to be in us which was also in Christ Jesus; to do unto others as we would have them do unto us; and to be merciful, just, and pure.

by Mary Baker Eddy.

When signing as a member, we had to agree to this. Also, when the m in mind is capitalized, they are referring to God --- not our mind.

The seven synonyms of God, according to Christian Science are: Life, Truth, Love, Principle, Mind, Love, and Soul.

This is Christian Science in a nutshell. I found this stuff in the cobwebs, btw.:laugh

The reason they believe in the unreality of evil, etc. is because God created absolutely everything and they believe that it would be impossible for God, good to create evil ---- He is too pure.

This is what they believe. Also, people are allowed to go to doctors. This is not a hard fast rule. There are many who do go to doctors and many who do not. It's their choice.

One last point, they believe that God is All-in-All. What they mean by that is that God is absolutely everywhere. He covers all space. He surrounds us and we cannot hide from Him.

I no longer attend a Christian Science church because I disagree with some of their ideas.

Hope this helps to answer questions. There are many myths floating around about this religion and many truths.
