View Full Version : How much do you waste?

I have felt really convicted lately about waste, especially with food!
I think about how many times our leftovers don't get eaten and thrown away just because I get "sick" of eating it and cook something different, sometimes having to go to the grocery store and purchase items when I have perfectly good food at home!
After Jesus fed the 5 thousand He said "Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted."
I don't think we do it excessively but how much do you really have to waste before it's considered excessive?
Anybody out there with me on this?

i see what you mean. not sure what to do about it in my own house except try not to contribute to it.
with all our technology (fridges, freezers, plastic food cloaking devices- aka vaccuum packers) its ridiculous that we are still wasting so much food.
we throw away almost as much as we use.
its flat out irresponsible when you get right down to it :(

when in women's forum ~ we were discussing grocery budgets ~ I was thinking of this very thing.
I'm afraid I'm *GUILTY AS CHARGED*..... :sigh

Well, one good thing about having chickens (and dogs) is not much goes to waste. However I'm very bad about buying veggies and allowing them to mold in the refrig.

I have had to learn to adjust from cooking for seven to cooking for two......
i did waste quite a bit until i realized that I needed to tone it down a little....hehe
I still like big cooking...so I am still tempted to make too much...sometimes I have to call the kids and say, come and get some stuff I just made.......
but food is one of the areas I could improve on....

I'm really amazed at how much people, ADULTS, leave on their plates in resturants. I was always taught to finish what's on my plate, and still do.
My pot-gut will attest to that. :)

Was proud of myself today.
I met a friend and her kids along with my 3 for lunch. Instead of all of us ordering our own plates, which I promise would have been only half eaten, I ordered an appetizer platter and split it between the kids and I and we wasted nothing! Plus it only cost 23.00 to feed 4 in a semi-nice resturant...this included our drinks and a bowl of queso that was too expensive:wacko .
Anyway, not huge but it is a step but I plan on doing something like that from now on when we get the privelage of going out!
Tonight is left over night!:D:edit to add: this doesnt look like a Christian Chat thread with this post....sorry!

I think the biggest thing that I waste is my time. I am not much of a self-motivator (which is why I love the Flylady site :D: ) My life would probably flow much easier if I would just step away from the computer. :twitch
