I was on my way home yesterday and saw something that made me have to make a U-turn to I could get a better look. I was passing by a Baptist Church in my car and saw a sign in front of the church. You know, that board where it tells you when the church service times are?
The sign that I saw (different saying on either side) said: "The only one who likes change is a wet baby"
I sat in my car writting it down word for word.
Then I went around and there was a different message on the other side of the board and it read:
"This church is a hospital for sinners. Not a museum for saints"!
I just want an idea if anyone may know what these signs may mean. Please interprete. Any input would be greatly appreceiated. Thanks.

1) Change (in lifestyle, personality, beliefs, etc.) is uncomfortable, but worth it if the changes are for the Lord.
2) Church is not a static display of the past works of its members, it's a living, active source of help and cleansing from above for the sins, hurts, shortcomings, etc. for any who attend.

The church is a hospital for sinners. Not a museum for saints.

I think it is with the scripture that says : those that are sick, need a physician. When Jesus was cautioning the Pharasees, that basically, they were saying they didn't need Him, cause they were more well than He was. The museum for saints, would address His caution to the Pharasees, that basically, they were whitened sulphlechurs (sp), only there to show off their superiority.....
church is for the battered and bruised of the world.....
so many teenagers have expressed to me.....you have to be... you have to look......I just can't go there, I am not one of them.....
in church, it is tempting to look like we have it all together, (which none of us do),
I tell the younger wives----your husband gets beat up all day at work, at home, it should be a safe place...not a place where the beating continues......
and so, it should be in church.....it should be a place to get healed, not a place where ONLY the healed reside.......
church should never be a place to show off our spiritual muscles....
which too often we have fallen into....it should be safe, feel safe to come in and confess our faults to one another......to get healed....but never to show up the next person......we don't even want to be vulnerable in church....we want to be the pillars......
I appreciate when a pastor says: I did a really stupid thing this week and God poked it in my face.....I struggle just like you......
I can listen to someone like this. Not someone who says: I am done with sinning....I don't do it no more.....ya, right.....They don't say it, of course, but they act it, and their body language says it....do you go to them for understanding? Probably not......
This is just the tip of the iceburg of this subject....but you get the idea....
The other saying...??????????I have no idea.....it's weird....:wave

There is a Baptist church acroos the street from us. They have one of those signs and they change it every week or so. They really have some good sayings. I always look forward to seeing what they are going to put next.

Grace and peace to you all.
When I was stationed at Ft. Bliss, TX, there was a sign on one of the El Paso churches that cracked me up. It was in the middle of August and hotter than blue blazes. The sign read: "YOU THINK IT'S HOT HERE"
God bless,
John

I had another thought about what was meant by "Not a museum for saints." I'm not Catholic so I don't visit Catholic churches here but I've been fortunate enough to have been to Europe several times. I have been in some of the Catholic churches in Spain and France. When you first walk in the door, you see the main sanctuary. However, on all the sides of the sanctuary, you will find room after room filled with a stone statue of a saint. The Catholics put money in a container near the base of the stone saint and then pray there. I have seen them actually touching the stone saint and praying. It looked like a museum to me.

My most favorite church sign is one I saw last year:
Sin sees the bait but not the hook.

I found it IMPOSSIBLE to have this baby.
Made an appointment for an abortion...passed a church sign that read:
TRY THE IMPOSSIBLE: TRUST GOD.
My son is 2 next month.

This sign is a slap in the face and an outright attempt at intimidating christians who are opposed to the "seeker-friendly", make the church like the world, purpose-driven church.
It's an attack on our heritage and beliefs. It's telling the assembly of believers they are not important. They don't need to be edified, encouraged, or rebuked.
Study what the New Testament says about the subject. The church is not a hospital for sinners! It's where the redeemed of Christ come together to worship God and uphold each other. Evangelism is done out in the world.
I will not be intimidated into buying into this wordly church. You can shun me and flame me, I will follow God's Word.
