I have a question that has been bugging me for awhile and was hoping someone on here will be able to help.

If when we are saved our sins become as white as snow?
Do we still have to give an account of what we did here on earth?
Thanks
Sasi

I think we do, though we will not face punishment.

Yes we are saved, but we are still accountable for our actions. In this case what did we do with what we were given.

The parable of the slaves and the talents comes to mind. We know the truth, what did we build with it?

Jesus spoke about a judgement like a mansion we built in life being test with fire: to see what would still be standing. That built with solid stone would still stand. Me, I have whole wings built out of comic books-"FOOSH!" thats gonna go up real fast.

But when we stand before Jesus, it will be a loving thing. not a fearful thing. If nothing else we are saved. But we also have another thing: We are faithful watchers for his return. Whats that verse in Revelations? Something about a reward for those who resist and watch?

Revelation 20
11 Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat upon it, from whose presence earth and heaven fled away, and no place was found for them.
12 And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened; and another book was opened, which is the book of life; and the dead were judged from the things which were written in the books, according to their deeds.
13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead which were in them; and they were judged, every one of them according to their deeds.
14 Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire.
15 And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

Vs 12 says the dead, that's all of us, will be judged by that which is in the books about us. This is where Satan will accuse us and point out our sins. And as it says in vs 15, if our names are also not in the book of life, we are thrown into the lake of fire. So yes, we will face our sins and be judged. However, no matter what, if we believe what is in those books, if we believe in Christ, our names are in the book of life and we are saved.

I don't look forward to this at all! You are all going to have to wait in line a while for them to finish when it's my turn! But at least I know my name is in the Book of Life and will still spend eternity with my Lord.

Bless...ArtS

Believers are not judged for their sins....their sins have been bought and paid for....they are nailed to the cross....there is no more judgement to come

unbelievers will still pay for their sins at the great white throne judgement...

believers will be judged on their works....God has given all believers gifts and resources...we will be judged on how we use those for the kingdom....

we will be rewarded or not rewarded (there will be no punishment) only lack of reward...

think of if you were rewarding your children....they all get praise...from your immature child who just learned to go potty to your mature teen who is suffering persecution for the Lord...and bringing others to Christ...as a parent you will reward each verbally...

this is how it will be with God...he will reward the immature for their works...but he will reward those who do more for the kingdom with more...

and some works will be burned up...because they were not of the Lord...but really for selfish motivation....but it will still be all reward and no punishment

edit to add...our rewards judgement is the Bema seat...here is a link to an article that gives further explanation

I thought once we asked for forgiveness we were forgiven.
Psalm 103:12-16 as far as the east is from the west so far has He removed our transgressions from us. As a Father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him; for he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust. As for man, his days are like grass, he flourishes like a flower of the field; the wind blows over it and it is gone, and its place remembers it no more.
Now, I thought that this means once we have asked for forgiveness that it is gone forever.

Sasi:

You must be careful. I already saw a post citing verses in Revelation concerning the White Throne Judgement. That judgement is a judgement of the soul and of no consequence to Christians, who have passed from that judgement into eternal life. We will have to, however, give an accounting of what we did as Christians. This is called the judgement seat of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:10). What happens there is described in more detail in 1 Corinthians 3:11-15.

I believe that this judgement will take place in heaven while the tribulation period is taking place on earth. Simply put, what happens is that all our works for Jesus are tested by fire. Whatever wasn't really done for Jesus will be burnt away, leaving us with whatever rewards there are for what was accepted by Jesus. We ourselves cannot be eternally lost (1 Cor 3:15) because of this judgement, as only the merits of our works are being judged, not our soul's merit or sinfullness.

You should not let someone shake your faith in this regard. If you know Jesus and are know by Him, He will not let anything eternally bad happen to you. We doubt when we are not walking with Him. You should follow John's advice (1 John 1:9) and confess your sins (as often as you recognize them). It will refresh your soul and keep you in fellowship with Jesus. Works for me!

God Bless You

I was taught that unbelievers may have to stand in judgement for their sins, sins that they have not asked forgiveness or have not confessed and been repentive of, that is. Once we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive us of them and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. But even after we are "saved" and we have been redeemed, we will continue to battle our sinful nature and will continue to be remiss and fall into sin. Each time, I was taught, we need to confess of those sins and ask forgiveness of them by God.

Sasi Forgiven? Yes.

Accountable? Also Yes.

Those of us with a 'checkered past' should be expected to be 'dressed down', but ultimately forgiven. I dont expect the 'dressed down' part to be particularily pleasant, FYI. But the end result will certainly be worth it. :wave
