hi everyone, Im new here and really like the look of the forum. Now on to my question. I have been a Christian for a year now, I accepted the Lord into my heart last year in January. I have opened up alot since I started going to church, but when our pastor does a altar call, I sometimes go up when I feel the holy spirit move me or I see someone I know walk up. When we start to pray I feel really akward doing it and usually just stand there looking stupid. Even when I'm alone praying makes me feel akward. I don't know why it is. So is this something normal every christian goes through or is it just me. And is there anything I can do to help get over my feelings of akwardness.

Hi D.C. :wave Welcome to Rapture Ready and also to the family of God!!

You are certainly not alone in your feelings.

Prayer is communicating with God. Let me ask you a question. When you're talking to someone you know really well, doesn't the conversation go pretty smooth? Usually you don't run out of things to say - because you know that person and have a relationship with them. Relationships are developed over time. They don't happen automatically.

But when you try to have the same conversation with someone you've only known a short time - it's not as easy, because you don't know them as well.

I have found that the more I read my bible - the more I talk to God, the more I get to know Him, the easier it is for me to pray. Also, by being around other Christians, I have learned much about praying.

Don't worry - God will take you through each and every situation, no matter what it is. Your prayer life will develop - just keep seeking Him and His face, before you know it, you'll be talking with Him just like an old friend. He loves you so much and is very excited about your relationship with Him.

I am praying that He will continue to guide you by His awsome Holy Spirit, and that He will let you know in a very real and powerful way that He is there for you.

God Bless!!

Patty

I felt awkward as well D.C. when I first became a born again christian. God will mold you each and every day. Ask God for you to get to know him a little more each day and to love him as well a little more each day. It takes time. It does not happen overnight.<><

thanks all of you for your help. I think that alot of my akward feelings come from my past. I spent the first 28 years of my life waging a one man war against God. I feel sometimes that his love and grace do not apply to me and I feel like how could something so awesome and great as God love and forgive someone like me. I still battle my demons (pornography) and I still slip into my old habits sometimes. I have to keep telling myself that its the enemy trying to bring me down again, and it helps.

thanks,

David

Hi, David

Sometimes when we can't find the words or the ability to form our prayers ourselves, the Holy Spirit "speaks" to God for us.
Romans8:26-27.

You will get more comfortable with prayer. It is simply communication with God. Sometimes it is just a little talk, sometimes thanks, sometimes a cry, sometimes fervent, sometimes just joyous praise, but it is all for Him.

Welcome to RR.

Being self-Conscience is normal. :):

just make sure you dont have a hole in your pants when you go up and there wont be anything to be embrassed about :pound.

seriously I was just trying to lighten up the situation a bit :):

I experience the same thing it is a combination of being self-conscience and spiritual warfare.

you are in my prayers :):
