Some of you know that I've been discouraged with my church lately. But last week our pastor did a kind of "state of the church" address during the message. Actually, it was a 45 minute message and he talked about the plans for the church over the next 7 years.
He's been in deep study and prayer over the year, and he believes God has told him that our goal for our church is to reach, bring to Christ, and baptize 2010 people by the year 2010. To put it in perspective, we baptized 70 people last year, and that was a record for us. We average about 1000 - 1100 people in worship on Sunday, divided into two services.
So, in order to reach all these people, our church is going to offer training in evangelism, discipleship, etc. They're even going to offer classes in the OT and NT! This is a first for our church, and one area that I've always thought was lacking. Right now, we basically just have home teams and a ladies Bible study on Wednesday mornings. The studies in these are usually topical. I think the new training will be great!
Anyway, I was so excited to hear something encouraging like this at church. I've been kinda bummed about church lately, and this really picked me up.
Can you imagine - 2010 people saved and baptized! Wow!!
